Excited to try it! ShinHadoukin Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2015 970 141 43 #3 ShinHadoukin, Dec 19, 2019 It’s pretty cool so far. The only issue I gave is it doesn’t save where you are. I exited the game and had to start over twice. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #4 Ringerill, Dec 19, 2019 I have tried it and I don't know what to think of it yet. To avoid confusion and to understand how the game works, I chose the fantasy worlds and played a wizard. What I can say is that through 5 reruns, there were slight variations. Each time, you begin in the same kingdom, you have a staff and spellbook, you go to some ruins (why? no idea but the setup is always the same). But once you arrive, there are slight variations. Sometimes the ruins are empty, sometimes there are people, sometimes skeletons, or sometimes you appear in a room filled with doors. The interactions are based on 2 types: speaking and acting. You can type a sentence in "quotes“ or you can begin an action using a verb. Both can be used to achieve the same goal (e.g. you can type "Who are you?" or Ask who they are, and the result will be the same). For the moment, the actions were all interpreted correctly. However, the AI is really lost sometimes and you just don't know what to do. Here is an example of an interaction I had: - I arrived at the ruins and met 2 people in wizard robes - I asked who they were - One guy introduced himself and said the other is his apprentice - I asked what they wanted and they answered that they were waiting for me - I asked why they were waiting for me and they answered they wanted to relay a message - I asked what the message was and apparently the king wanted to ask me something - I asked what he wanted and they said he will arrive from his tower in several days - I asked what I had to do, they answered I had to make sure he arrived And so on, and so forth... It is really convoluted and sometimes the answers are short and leave you clueless about your next action. Sure it is fun because you are not totally guided but it feels like a Game Master who just gives you the scenario sentence by sentence and asks you to interact after each one. Also, there is sometimes some reactions to what you did that feels way too wrong. For instance, I appeared in front of a room filled with door. Just by curiosity, I tried to write 'Use a divination spell', hopping that I will use it to guess which door is the correct or dangerous one. To my surprise, it understood what a divination spell was but it launched it to know what type of creature lived here. Quite cool! But disappointment followed after because I received to response appart from "You wake up the next day. You are in front of the ruins, nothing has changed". That was strange... Still, there seem to be a vast potential here! There are multiple universes you can play in (Fantasy, Mystery, Apocalyptic, Zombies, Custom) and in every universe you can chose from a list of characters to play. Even if the interpretation of your actions can be not what you expected, maybe it can be improved by putting more details in the description (for instance, instead of simply using a divination spell, I could have written that I wanted to use a spell to find the correct door). I will try to play with it a little while because I am really curious about this. Technically, if it's an interactive AI, it might even learn in the long run and correct itself by creating interactions and stories based on other people writings! But the real problem however, is that the game does not save... If you close the app, the story resets and you have to redo the whole thing. Is it on purpose or is it a bug? Maybe it was programmed this way, maybe it's a limitation of the algorithm, maybe it's a limitation of the developper who don't know how to deal with saves for the AI... I tried a custom one as a doctor in a hospital; it knew all about curing patients, mysterious diseases etc. Test results turned up. Seems cool. Edit: One thing I forgot to mention. Whilst checking out the website I came across the issue of the upkeep costs for the game. Apparently each new user costs them $1 per month, currently this equates to $70,000 a month upkeep! Their Patron stands at $10000 a month with $2.50 the lowest tier. Seems unsustainable of course and they say as much. I’ll certainly support if I get into it but I’m not sure it will have much legs after the initial novelty wears off. Ringerill likes this. Still, it doesn't sound like a viable solution on the long term. I could accept a cool game like that for a subscription of 1$/month. I would never have known about the Patreon if you didn't bring it up here so how does the dev expects you to support him? Also, as you said, once you play the game for a week or month, the novelty will wear off. Unless the capacity of the game is indeed "infinite" and the stories are always different each time you play and each interaction is unique and polished. And for the time being, it doesn't seem to be the case. Every time I restarted a game, I'm sent to see the king because he wants to tell me something. Not a problem in itself but what if I don't want to and I want to become the next grandmaster of the wizards? Still didn't manage to do so... EDIT: the Patreon has jumped to 5$/month as the lowest pledge. It is written that for the time being, the game is accessible freely but "only for the time being". I guess if they don't get the monthly funding, they are going to make the subscription mandatory. 1$/month is acceptable to me, but 5$/months, not so much Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #7 Ringerill, Dec 19, 2019 Last edited: Dec 19, 2019 Ok, so actually this app uses the GTP-2 OpenAI "algorithm". I have actually read about that about a year ago and I am impressed it is already used by other people. Quickly summarised, their AI was tasked with recreating a story based on a human prompt. And it actually got some seriously convincing sentences, thus the controversy about its release to the public. As they deemed this AI to be too convincing, they decided to release only a small part of their code as a guideline for others (to avoid possible misuses and "fake automated posts"). Some wants them to release the whole thing and some try to stop them because the social implications are quite complicated. So I see here that the exact same AI is used for the game. It seems to be used to generate a story and thus making it a game but in my opinion, without much constraints, it will go everywhere and nowhere. Sometimes it bugs out quite openly and sometimes it just creates unrealistic situations. I have thus met a woman in the street who got stabbed, she asked for my help, I came and saw blood everywhere and apparently, she got stabbed with a dagger in the throat. Still, we conversed joyfully and she even took me on a treasure hunt the next day! Man, the constitution of this woman is high! Good thing I have her on my team now! Sometimes, I end up going to a tavern (because that's what all adventurers do) and for some reason, instead of me asking for a chamber, people come to me and ask me if they can stay at the tavern, or if I can serve them. At one point, I answered someone by saying "I am Ringerill the wizard" and the NPC presented itself as a wizard and asked me who I was. I said I was Ringerill the wizard again and he just ignored me and invited me in his small hut while I have met him in some ruins. In itself, it is not problematic and is quite fun to play around. However, without any clear end or story, with constant jumping scenes, it is hard to call that a world (you go to a cave, exist in a forest, climb a tree, hop in a wagon, appear in front a boat). Sure you are allowed to do virtually anything you want but then the game also do whatever it wants. The story feels like an endless flow of scenes that sometimes are in order and sometimes just random. Seems more like an experimental project than an actual game. I only tried to play a Fantasy game so if someone else can share their experience, I would gladly welcome it. Maybe I do not interact in the correct way. Still, I have to admire it when I managed to kill myself by stabbing myself in the neck, I decided to resurrect. A voice from the spirit of the dead called me out, and said it will bring me back to life. I said that I wanted Power and it said that indeed I will need power to defeat the evil forces. Back on the tracks again, that was cool! Son of Anarchy likes this. sweetdiss Well-Known Member Jun 15, 2009 1,743 5 38 #8 sweetdiss, Dec 19, 2019 Is this based on AI Dungeon 2 or the original? BillyOceansBlues Well-Known Member Mar 1, 2013 188 7 18 #10 BillyOceansBlues, Dec 23, 2019 Id love to read more about the rationale behind the “ai” being used here. It seems to immediately abandon the original prompts and resorts to returning random strings of words. For instance, if you choose apocalypse as the setting, it might just hit you with something like “you try to leave town but you cant seem to get anywhere so you go back to your hotel room and try not to think about it too much.” Uh this is the end of the world, there are no hotels? I just wish there was some indication that this thing knows it’s a game and not just a tricky little text generator. Like dude whats in my inventory? Where is the truck i was just driving? What is the condition of the truck? Do you recall how you gave me a courier mission? Why would I just suddenly “go home”? The whole thing is fishy to me. Maybe a neat trick of an app but there is no “game” here. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #11 Ringerill, Dec 23, 2019 There is indeed no “game” as you might expect of a game. There is no coherent scenario, no clear end (in fact the story NEVER ends), no inventory, no history of your past deeds... This is really more of a fun experimental app than a “game”. For more details, this app uses the GTP-2 model, whose primary uses are to generate some sentences based on an input. Nothing more, nothing less, it just tried to stay realistic, as close as possible to a human generated story. Here, they just took this algorithm and set an initial text at the beginning to generate the background. Still, its memory is about 8 inputs I think so if you met someone 8 paragraphs before, dont expect them to stay any longer. There is a similar app called “Infinite Story”, where the devs are only focusing on the Fantasy universe for the moment and are trying to make it more story like by putting some constrains and user inputs-like answers. Also, their AI is more wild and can generate broader reactions. If you just want to read some interesting or fun stories, “Infinite Story” is better. It can generate more interesting stories based on a limited input. It does jump randomly in the scenario but less often and in a more subtle way than AI Dungeon. Also it is more NSFW as it is more wild in the text generation. I have seen my share of other users’ stories where they run around, killing princesses and r@ping dragons. Still, the most extraordinary is how well the AI managed to keep it coherent within the Fantasy Universe. In definitive, AI Dungeon 2 and Infinite Story are both fun app but at the moment, they are only meant to read some random text generation. If you want to meet a crazy bad writer that will tell you random stories, this is your chance. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
