Think Baldur’s Gate but streamlined and with indy production values. Spiderweb Software has been making similar games since the 90’s (on PC, then later on iPad as well) and they just nail the mix of complexity with accessibility, and their storytelling is always on point. Any one know if this game is the same? EDIT; I bought the game so I will answer my own question. The game is not optimised for the 3rd Gen iPad. The black border is still there and the various icons are also there, though they are at the top of the screen. I have sent a technical support email to try and get an answer from Jeff to see if he will fix this in an upcoming patch. FURTHER EDIT; Happy to report that a patch has been rushed out and all issues have been fixed and it actually has made the game look a whole lot better now that the higher resolution is fully supported. marccsantos Member May 29, 2014 8 0 1 #11 marccsantos, Dec 9, 2019 I just bought this. I’m playing on an old iPhone 6s. A lot of the buttons do not fit in the screen. Long winded text to follow, so sorry for that; One of the main attractions for me with Spiderweb games (apart from the story) is the turn based combat. While not overly complicated in its execution I have found it usually requires some tactical thinking to be successful. In the Steam version of Queens Wish you can right click on an enemy to get detailed info about them such as hp (I’ll come back to that later) resistances/critical chance/buffs, that sort of thing. There is no such information available on the mobile version (I am playing on an iPad so I assume it is the same on iPhone). So you are basically fighting against an unknown quantity. The way battles have been modified in Queens Wish as compared to previous Spiderweb games makes this a major problem. In previous games, combat was a more traditional affair, if you are not strong enough to beat an enemy you could always go and grind a level or two. Queens Wish has a totally different approach. You only get exp from completing quests and killing bosses. If you need to leave a dungeon and then return to complete it you will fight the same enemies, only this time harder. This repeats each time you re-enter. If you have no idea what an enemies weakness is you will probably fail many battles (unless you play only on casual difficulty). Knowing what an enemies weakness and buffs are extremely important. The mobile version currently does not give you this information. And returning to hp. There are enemy health bars at the bottom of enemies graphics. The problem is that objects and items, even other characters will block out those health bars. Not too much of a problem in the Steam version.... you can always right click to get that information. No way to see it in the mobile version. So if you have, lets say, two enemies and their health bars are hidden. Do I attack with my most powerful spell that uses up my mana or does the enemy just need a tap on the head with my staff? Which enemy has less hp? I have no idea. What makes this decision even more critical is there is no mana potions. You only replenish small amounts of mana though surviving each battle. So there is no way of knowing if I should spend a lot of mana on an enemy now (keeping in mind I have to kill a boss at the end to get any exp at all) or do I chance just hitting it with a weapon. It breaks the game completely. I have emailed Jeff about all this but as of this time of writing have received no reply. Buy the game on Steam if you think you might like it, but I warn you, the mobile version is a lesser and not enjoyable version. I hope the problem gets patched out, because otherwise the game plays very nice on an iPad and it is the first iPhone version of a Spiderweb game. Just be warned.
