It’s an excellent card swiping roguelite sort of thing. Gameplay consists of swiping cards in a series of binary decisions similar to Reigns, but with more of an adventure vibe since you are traveling around, exploring wildernesses, going into caves, taking on quests and jobs, encountering monsters, etc. You have an inventory and can take companions with you. From what I’ve seen so far there seems to be a great variety in cards, and they are not just completely random but depend on the area (town, region, cave, or whatever) where you are located. There are unlockable races and classes as well. The production values are top notch. I am enjoying the artwork, the music, the writing, and the sense of humor. There is a bug currently where the game keeps asking for your iTunes login whenever you start or finish a game. I contacted the developer and they are aware and working on it. ShinHadoukin Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2015 970 141 43 #8 ShinHadoukin, Oct 14, 2019 I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying this game. I have played nearly every break I’ve had since buying it. My only criticism, which is really meaningless because what matters is so good, is that the app icon is ugly. The card art is great I’m the game with crisp clear colors, but the icon looks washed out, blurry, and “cheap” looking. I know that sounds weird & it doesn’t matter really, but a nice icon does grab the eye. example: Hoppia tales. If I saw the icon on the App Store I would click it just to see what it is because he icon is so awesome. Again, the important thing is the game is fun & well done.....but maybe an icon update in the future. L.Lawliet likes this. Once it opens up, there’s just so much there, and it’s one of those games where you’re driven to get right back into after finishing a game. As for the icon, I hadn’t really noticed but I agree. It’s too busy around the edges imo, and would look better if it was just the gold A and the red background. L.Lawliet likes this. Still some bugs remain like the possibility to have a negative amount of money (I paid 15 coins while having 13 and when I earned 10, I had 8 of them in my pouch, meaning that the negative amount was saved). I also don't understand why it asks me for my Apple password when I launch the game. Is it a problem with the Game Center connection? I will try it for some time and will write my impression once I manage to finish a run properly. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #11 Royce, Oct 15, 2019 There’s an update pending approval that fixes that. I believe it also contains a more satisfying and less abrupt conclusion for games where you fail the main story quest. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #14 Royce, Oct 16, 2019 Spoiler Ok, there are some easier ways to get off the island (for instance if you have great strength (Barbarian for example), you can just tear down a tree and make a canoe). However the main way involves a series of steps. When you find bananas, keep them, monkeys will approach you. Give them monkeys the bananas, and bam, monkey crew. Climb a tree for a coconut, you’ll need it. Salvage for supplies to get wood planks. Find a map with a code on the back of it. Once you have those things travel to the center of the island. Get dynamite from the old mine. Then go to the grate. The code from the map will open it. Below is a cave with an old shipwreck. Use the planks to repair the ship. There should be an old loom as well. Use your coconut for fiber to repair the ships sail. Use the dynamite to clear the exit from the cave, and man the ship with your monkey crew. Then you’re good to go. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #15 Ringerill, Oct 17, 2019 I do enjoy the game as the "fast paced" RPG version of Reigns but I have problems to grasp the curve and the actual pace. For instance, there are some ways to infinitely loop in a location building feats, gaining money and XP and healing at the same time. It is nice when you discover the game and you want to know each possible results of cards but in the long run, it feels strange. It takes you few combats to become lvl 7-8 but then the stagnation is terrible so the point of levels is obscure aside from HP increase. The fact that you can cycle in the same location and that you can come back to all locations is also a strange choice. Sure it gives you more chances to complete certain side quests and find some items but it takes away the difficulty because it is basically like having unlimited ressources in Reigns. Still even after taking advantage of this, I manage to die quite easily against quest's bosses even if I have dozens of items and feats. Sure I could grind XP even more but it seems that the years count is related to an increase in difficulty so the best way is to rush as much as possible by visiting main locations. To bring more positivity to this, I love how certain items allow certain actions to be resolved with 100% success or are sometimes needed in really unexpected situations. I also really appreciate that each class has it's own story to begin with even if I guess that they all end the same when the Evil Baron is defeated. I have unlocked only 2 classes (Mage and Captain) but I wonder if new races will have other interactions with the world just like the classes and genders do. I think what makes the game really nice to play is the fact that you can advance quickly and discover many different locations and that even if you revisit certain areas in other runs, the results may vary based on chance. Also, the many possible unlocks keep me trying to get all of them and test them out. TheSilveryWolf Well-Known Member Dec 1, 2015 143 14 18 #16 TheSilveryWolf, Oct 17, 2019 So how does this compare to Reigns? The game looks awesome but Reigns was a fast burn-out. I enjoyed Reigns but not to its conclusion; there were too many repeated paths and I forgot which ones I took already so I would repeat a path by mistake. If this game is different enough I'll give it a try, because Reigns was almost there. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #17 Royce, Oct 17, 2019 I wouldn’t even really compare it to Reigns much other than the card swiping mechanic.
