I dont want anything too complicated ! I thought this was turn by turn but its real time isnt it ? So you just control the squad and where to go etc ? If it was turn based, I wouldn’t have pre-ordered despite it’s being made by Pixelbite. Luckily, I can still say I bought every single of their games the day one. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,964 717 113 England #7 psj3809, Oct 9, 2019 Sorry last question. How do you control your squad ? Tap to move all of them or can you move individual soldiers easy to shoot ? Can you pause it and set everyone up to target someone ? squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,714 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #8 squarezero, Oct 9, 2019 Last edited: Oct 9, 2019 You can move all of them at once or select individual members. Only done the tutorial mission so far, but so far this less XCom and more Squad-based RTS. Firing is automatic, but you can pause the action to enter specific commands. It’s mission based, but encounters are based on a card-based randomized system. Like anything from Pixelbite, the polish is there. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,964 717 113 England #9 psj3809, Oct 9, 2019 Sold !! Pixelbite is the quality one. Those guys are responsible for all the great stuff we love. Pixelbyte on the other hand is different company that stands behind not so great games like Gravity Galaxy or Terra Forma. I got mistaken in the past (as I just found out by reading my post in Gravity Galaxy thread), so I’m just setting things straight, just in case. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,714 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #11 squarezero, Oct 9, 2019 Ahh — right. I stand corrected. I’ll fix my post. pathogen541 Well-Known Member Jun 19, 2016 503 355 63 #12 pathogen541, Oct 9, 2019 Is this similar to Strain Tactics? That was one of my FAVORITE real time squad based strategy games. Providing helicover for my boys, doing strafing runs with my mini gun..... Strain Tactics was my shit. If this is similar, it too shall be my shit. Really lookoing for some community feed back before I hop into this one. Edit: After hopping on the AppStore and looking at the video posted there, it looks EXACTLY like strain tactics. Will be buying ASAP. Only got to play for about 20 minutes so far, so far so good and looking forward to playing more. Although I don’t feel like I have many tactical options really only how I move and with some frag grenades which are limited. But hopefully more options unlock as I progress further to make it more tactical. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #14 Quoad, Oct 9, 2019 No. edit: there are clear similarities. The games have the same broad setting. But this is much, much, much less complicated. pathogen541 Well-Known Member Jun 19, 2016 503 355 63 #15 pathogen541, Oct 9, 2019 That was going to be my follow up question; Is this as complicated as Strain Tactics? thanks for the quick response. dukat111 Well-Known Member Mar 23, 2010 514 94 28 #16 dukat111, Oct 10, 2019 Only played 30 minutes but so far I like what I see. Interface very well done for touch. It feels like X-COM lite with some card/deck mechanics. Anyone get far enough to know if it's possible to take your time and explore/farm or does the day progression force you to keep moving towards the end? Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #17 Quoad, Oct 10, 2019 Afaict it’s mostly your health and morale (and so trauma) that puts an end to how far you venture in any given day. I missed this at first, and so was only completing one mission per day. IDK how idiotic / easy that mistake is to make. I then started a second playthrough, where I got significantly further in two days than I had in five. Must say, I am yet to be smitten by this. The lack of load out options (in early game at least) is... disappointing. Equipment unlocks certain missions, but e.g. it would be nice to be able to deploy a machete - whether or not I’m carrying it for jungle clearance - if hand to hand got hairy. Or to use those explosives not just as a tick box for entering a mission, but to blow seven shades of smeg out of looming alien hordes. My second play through may have come to an end last night, as I stopped caring about my characters’ survival at the wrong time. There clearly is nuance here. My chars are taking hits on a fair few levels. And those hits usually feel avoidable (particularly with judicious use of e.g. grenades). I don’t feel very invested in the blighters yet, though. And the mistakes don’t feel very interesting to fix. Yet. (E.g., ok, last night realised it makes sense to shoot out the quick little ones and then retreat - even though you can’t shoot whilst retreating - from the big slow ones. Is that interesting? Yeah, probably becomes so. Not yet.) Edit: this is in sharp contrast to Strain Tactics, which was literally the first game I cracked open when I got a new iPad this year, as I’d kinda stopped gaming on my 2013 mini a couple of years before; and strain was not REALLY playable on phone. I got a sense there of dark, deep, inordinate depth. I do not get the same sense here. dukat111 Well-Known Member Mar 23, 2010 514 94 28 #18 dukat111, Oct 10, 2019 I've never heard of Strain Tactics, will check it out, thanks for the tip. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #19 Quoad, Oct 10, 2019 “If Wavelight did Xenowerk Tactics” would be my best nutshell! Good luck, and enjoy! ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 999 113 #20 ste86uk, Oct 10, 2019 I don’t see a downside to skipping the day? The story doesn’t progress until you get a new safe zone anyway other than that they are random missions you can do whenever. Letting the day change gets you more gold so it seems like it can be played indefinitely anyway? Quoad likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
