Great work on the download bump! You must be very happy with the results :)

  2. Congratulations on the 400K!

Do you think it's better to go straight to a freemium model or do the Paid -> Free promotion -> Paid dance?

So, far I haven't design a Freemium game from the start (other than a demo+iap to unclock the full version). My guess is that they are so many freemium game now that unless you spend some budget marketing on your launch, you are very likely to have huge difficulty to make some cash. Also, when you start at free, you haven't much possibility from there. For now (but this might evolve with the market) I like to release at least 2 versions: paid & free+iap to unlock full. This is giving the maximum flexibility.

Free for a week, eh? Never really considered that before...

I did a one-day freebie on AWESOME Land once the sales dropped, well, a day and a half, and it got 30,000 downloads, sales bumped up to about 300 the next day (meh) then dropped right back down again. Got a lot of negative reviews in despite most people loving the game. The update goes out soon with the game at a lower price with new features, so I'm seeing if that will bring another spike, then when it drops right down, at the same time that I release my new game, I may try this.

With free promotions I always worry that you might be getting downloads from people who would have eventually paid for it, but I guess you can rig your game to give you the option to advertise other games to those people.

I will be continuing to promote that game through updates, promotions etc. whilst working on others and then cross-promoting them, so I guess the free promotion idea could be pretty lucrative in the long run.

Has anybody else had success with offering an app for free for a longer period of time rather than a day or so?
