Grazing bullets charges your special gauge and holding down a second finger builds up charges the shot while letting go lets it loose. You can't fire your main weapon and you'll stop collecting items while having that second finger on screen, but once you fire your special shot all of the projectiles that are around your ship turn white and you can freely move through them. There are gems or items or.... I don't know what to call them... that fall from destroyed enemies, they're green and yellow. Yellow ones only fall when the special shot is involved, though I haven't really figured that one out completely yet. These add to your multiplier. I THINK that the yellow gems/items build up another gauge that, when filled, gives you a SUPER (don't know what else to call it).... ability?... a little icon will show up in the lower left corner of the screen and when pressed, a small ring is released from your ship that slowly moves up the screen and gets larger as it moves. Any projectiles that go through this ring are turned into gems. The game is wave based instead of stage based and I have no idea how high the waves go up to. The end of wave bonuses are HUGE and where most of your score will come from. I'm sorry I can't figure out more, as the help is in Chinese and there's no developer website, no reviews and no videos online that I have been able to find. This game is DIFFICULT. Even on Easy mode, I was pretty much getting my butt kicked. But there is definitely something I'm not seeing and even more definitely a solid SHMUP to be found here. syntheticvoid Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2010 14,504 124 63 Musician & factory worker. a[V-O-I-D] http://apparentsymmetry.bandcamp.com #3 syntheticvoid, Sep 22, 2019 Last edited: Sep 23, 2019 I hope it's okay if I post this, if not, please delete this post (and I'm sorry - I did read the rules and guidelines for posting a new thread, but since there is no trailer to be found or any gameplay videos, I made a short vid to let people see what it looks like in action) This might help give those that have read my above post a better idea of what I'm talking about. I also downloaded an image translation app, snapped a screenshot of the help page and tried to get some sense of a better idea for what is going on in the game. **I'm sorry about this split image - it's just one full screen in-game, but the translation app I was using had ads and made it so that I couldn't snap a picture of the entire thing in one image. ***EDIT*** Alright, so.... to try and not keep posting one after the other here.... I'm just editing this - After playing a bit more, I feel like I'm starting to wrap my head around it... Each of the 3 ships has a different special/charge shot as well as a different ability that is charged up with 2nd gauge (I think). For instance, one ship has a screen-wide bomb that turns every single projectile into yellow (bigger/more valuable) gems. Another ship gains a shield that reflects every one of the enemy's projectiles back at them, then, like I've already mentioned - the last ship has that orb that slowly grows and crawls up the screen turning all projectiles that enter it's borders into gems. With your charge shot - the one that turns projectiles white - these (now) white projectiles turn into yellow gems if they're still on the screen and a medium or large enemy is destroyed by your regular shot. These white projectiles also still charge your special/charged shot, so it's a good idea to let that shot loose when there's a ton of bullets in close proximity to your ship. You do have a health bar. It's not a '1-shot-dead' type game. But you also only have 1 ship. I'm not exactly sure what the requirements are, but sometimes a blue item will get dropped from a destroyed ship (always medium or large - never the small or 'popcorn' ship) that will refill a small portion of your health. Now - for the negative things about the game (because yes, while I am beginning to completely fall in mad crazy gamer love with this game - there are a few negatives - some of which might be big enough to be deal breakers for some players, so I feel that I NEED to mention them). -THERE IS NO PAUSE BUTTON. -AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, THE GAME IS IN CHINESE. Well.... 2/3 of it is, anyway. The main menu is in English. Half of the ship selection menu is in English (with the most important parts in Chinese-listing what the differences are between the ships - HOWEVER.... I did that image translation thing with them and this is what I got::: Ship Type-01 Special: Power Shot Desc (I don't know what this is supposed to mean): Maximum number of options: 2 Ship Type-02 Special: Homing Shot Desc: Maximum number of options: 2 Ship Type-03 Special: Bubble Shot Desc: Increased options due to enemy whitening (Maximum number: 4) "Options", if anyone doesn't know, in SHMUPs - they are the smaller little ships/buddys/pals/Juiceboxes that follow/orbit around your ship and also fire shots at the enemies. And lastly, in regards to the Chinese - as I've already said - the 'Help' page that can be accessed from the main menu is completely in Chinese, though... since I have posted those images above - and it seems like there's not really too much information in regards to the mechanics of the game, this isn't really looking like it's a big issue. -THERE IS NO GAMECENTER INTEGRATION. Yeah, you read that right.... no leaderboards or achievements in a SHMUP. Personally, this is becoming less and less important to me as time passes. SHMUPs have become (to me) more of the type of game where I set my own goals and just try to keep improving, or learn something new about the game that I didn't previously know, each time/day/gaming-session that I play. There's no way I'm ever going to having scores anywhere near comparable to the top of the leaderboards and most achievements are (for the most part, and in most of the games that I have played) things that you will either unlock if you play long enough or manage to pull off once you reach a certain skill level - they are very rarely taken advantage of so that it's almost like a quest list or puzzle that you'd have to solve in order to achieve. It can be pretty aggravating when achievements are added but they're along the lines of "Beat level 1-1", "discover the credits", "reach stage 2-3" or "beat the first boss" - those aren't achievements. Those are points in the game that most everyone that plays is going to reach and pass or checking out menus.... Sorry.... *small rant over* There are no un-lockables. There are no IAPs and no currency. No upgrades. Nothing that would need to get transferred over to another device if you were to play this game on an iPhone and an iPad. The only thing that I can think of that someone might like to have on both devices would be the Local Scores (accessed from the main menu). They're separated by difficulty and ship. But being able to transfer saves isn't needed here. -THERE ARE NO OPTIONS. You can not change the relative movement ratio. It is 1:1, and that's it. You have no options for sound. You can't turn the music down and keep the SFX on, you can't change the size of the gameplay screen, or how your specials are activated or where your ability icon is (it will always be in the lower left corner), ect.... I will say that I'm comfortable when I play. It doesn't matter where you drop your second finger when you're charging your special shot and the ship's movements feel nice and fluid and precise. You're able to weave through very tight openings between bullets so long as you have a steady finger. But I know that this lack of options will turn some people off, especially when combined with some of the other things I'm mentioning here. -WHEN YOUR SHIP IS HIT, IT CAN NOT MOVE FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND. This means that if you get hit by a large grouping of projectiles or smash into a wall of them from the side - you will take A LOT of damage because you won't be able to move your ship out of the way once it takes it's first hit. I don't know how I feel about this yet.... I'm on the fence. In some games, I love that this is a part of the gameplay. In others, it just frustrates the crap out of me. I'm not sure how I feel about it here, and I think that's because I still don't have a very good grasp of the gameplay and scoring mechanics yet. Alright.... I think that's it. That's... all of the negative things that I can say about this game. But, even with these 'issues', I am VERY happy with my purchase, and - if you're a SHMUP fan and none of these issues have completely turned you away from the game, I FULLY recommend getting it (if you couldn't tell by how much time I've spent just writing this up - I REALLY REALLY like this game so far - it actually pulled me away from Dead Cells + DoDonPachi Resurrection... !!!!). I still haven't written an iTunes 'review' yet, so I have no idea if the developer would change any of these things. I can't find the developer's webpage (if they have one), and there is no support button in the AppStore. Because of this - it's best to view this game as one that will never get updated with any changes. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
