Gameplay is very smooth and the experience is polished. This is also one of those games where you see how easy they could have put the ink, hints and books behind a free to play model. Being rewarded with ink while playing and knowing that everything is unlockable in the end is comforting. Let's hope that the business model behind Arcade is sufficient for developers to survive. As a reader, it hooked me in with the word rearranging and filling in the blanks style. Both this game and Word Laces seem like the type of freemium game that we've all been burned by (ads, timers, coins, gems) in the past, but with none of that junk now. Apple Arcade reminds me of the early days of the App Store and I love it. I'll happily pay a subscription to play games without all the gacha/timer mechanics. Hopefully they continue adding great quality -- as someone without a gaming PC (I'm all console/mobile), it's great getting games on iOS that I've seen on Steam for Windows only. weipeng and Morbus Iff like this. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #6 macplash, Sep 24, 2019 What a fantastic game! I’m playing on “relaxed reader” difficulty, so no rush for me. Just a pure enjoyment. Maybe I shouldn’t have picked this one up as my very first Apple Arcade game because it seems I’m gonna be hooked for a while. The amount of gameplay mechanics to unlock, chapters to go through or books to collect is absolutely impressive. There are achievements on Game Center to complete and special challenges to do to unlock bonus books. The presentation is flawless as well. Everything’s smooth and clean. I’m seriously impressed by this game. Highly recommended! weipeng likes this. Kalesti Member Oct 1, 2016 8 0 1 #7 Kalesti, Sep 24, 2019 Can you imagine how annoying ads would be in this? Very good game. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #8 ste86uk, Sep 25, 2019 I’m not sure how I feel about this one, I’m not a big word game fan though. I just can’t decide on if I actually enjoy playing it or if it just feels like work. But I can certainly see the appeal for word game fans especially with it being premium. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #9 macplash, Sep 25, 2019 @ste86uk it definitely doesn't feel like work! Once you unlock more game mechanics, it's actually pretty great game. Maybe it's Pride and Prejudice you're starting with that makes you feel this way. There are different genres, no worries. I just wish the books were cheaper. But I know it's my fault playing on the easiest difficulty without time limit and whatnot. That's reflected in humble rewards I'm getting. Nevertheless, I'd rather relax and g̶r̶i̶n̶d̶ read more than be willingly stressed about time running out Anyway, my favorite word game's still Highrise Heroes and I doubt that's ever gonna change, so yeah. weipeng likes this. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #10 macplash, Sep 28, 2019 Let me tell you, after beating first daily challenge on EXPERT! difficulty without using a single hint, coming back to regular in-game book feels like an actual reading. Swapping and filling in words suddenly comes so naturally it doesn’t even feel like a challenge anymore. And I don’t even need to point out my English actually ain’t that good, obviously. What a rewarding game! And if you’re still hesitant for any reason on this one, don’t be and give it a try. weipeng likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
