Nothing much new in gameplay that we haven’t already seen in the tons of Slay the Spire clones being released atm. The double experience iap is a big concern for me. I always feel with this type of purchase that the “double” actually makes the games exp gain just normal, and it’s the free game that actually has the experience gained halved. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #6 vectorarchitekt, Aug 15, 2019 Very happy about that! A real plus with this game for me though is the way saves are handled. You can save at any time, even mid battle and the save is continuous from device to device. Perfect implementation. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #12 Ringerill, Aug 26, 2019 I have tried to play it for some time to actually see if the progression is interesting and if the IAPs become mandatory. I seems that some new cards can be unlocked by completing some challenges (beat X monsters, deal X damage, etc.). Also every time you finish a run, you earn some XP. But I have still to understand what this XP is meant for... You can level up but it doesn't change the amount of HP you have, new cards you unlock or anything else for that matter. I was expecting some upgrades, bonuses for next runs or new cards but it is not the case so I am quite perplexed about the XP and the corresponding IAP. The gameplay is really similar to StS with limited energy that replenishes every turn, passive abilities, armour, buffs and debuffs, well you know the drill. However, having only 1 class (The Warrior) is somewhat strange because the game becomes quickly repetitive. Based on the cards I have seen you have 3 choices of builds: Armour (you can deal some damage every time you gain some with a card), Attack (you have cards that buffs you damage and deal some damage for every attack card you play) or a Mix of both (not the best idea imo because you can't block enough and you can't kill enemies fast enough before they become too OP with their buffs or debuffs). The difficulty scaling is also a major problem for me and even after many runs, I still can't reach the second boss because it's really difficult to heal. Even with the full Armour build, I couldn't reach him because I constantly lost some HP along the way and I couldn't regen enough (only 20HP and camps out of 80). I know that in this type of game you are not supposed to reach the final boss easily but I don't understand what will help me do that because with each run my character don't become stronger, I don't unlock new cards and I don't gain bonuses that could help me in future runs as stated above... And I just play on Normal difficulty. I can't even imagine how difficulty it could get on higher difficulty But I will continue to play it and see how it is possible to kill the final boss. I am also curious to see if there are some particular levels gained with XP that unlocks some perks or cards. I know the game is free and IAPs are a way to get some money but apart from supporting the dev by buying the Adds removal or XP doubler, I wouldn't venture into buying the whole package including future updates. It seems that the next update will unlock the class Necromancer but the price of the single unlock is not specified and the amount of updates planned is not mentioned anywhere. If the updates will look like Pirates Outlaws, then it would be worth the investment but I doubt that the only developer of this game will keep such a pace. TL,DR: a clone of StS that plays fast but doesn't offer anything new. Still a nice free time killer but quite difficult. IAPs are not necessary but I guess future updates will require to buy new characters and maybe cards/dungeons. Wouldn't recommend spending the 22€ for the "Season Pass" until it has become clear of what the updates will be for this game. PS: If the dev could come here or at least clarify what is planned for the game, it would be cool. If not, this game won't last long because there are so many more card battler games out there that are better and more diverse. Ijipop, vectorarchitekt and stubbieoz like this. JeremyMD New Member Sep 23, 2019 2 1 3 Male #13 JeremyMD, Sep 23, 2019 I'm currently top 3 in the rankings and at Torment 48. Let me help you guys with tips. The most difficult thing in this game is healing. At first, you'll think "Drain" is the key, but no, it's not. The key is "Troll Blood" and "Recuperate". Troll Blood - Whenever you lose Hp, heal 3. Recuperate - At the end of each turn, heal for 1.5x the amount of self damage you inflicted. When these cards appear, they are TOP PRIORITY. On Act 1, try to get Recuperate along with the passive cards that damage you but give benefits. Overthinker - At the start of each turn, lose 1 Hp and draw 1 card. Pay With Blood - At the end of each turn, lose 2 Hp and deal 6 damage to all enemies. You will also need these other cards that will be invaluable from Act 2 onwards. Lifebreak - Lose 2 Hp. Deal 15 damage. Channel Pain - Lose 1 Hp and deal 23 damage. Costs 1 less energy every time you lose Hp. Blood Pact - Lose 2 Hp. Gain 2 energy. * On higher Torment levels, you will need Berserker Rage because the first boss will kill you as its power increases almost exponentially the longer he stays alive. The most important relic to get is the one that lets you draw a card every time you lose Hp. This will allow you to kill all enemies in one turn provided you got at least 1 Channel Pain and 1 Blood Pact. If it doesn't show, your next option is the Fidget Spinner which lets you draw 2 cards any time you have no cards in hand. So the basic idea is to get Troll Blood and Recuperate and your other passive cards set up as early as possible. From there, most of your other spells will serve as healing as well as damage or additional energy. If you get the relic that lets you draw a card on Hp loss, the Blood Pact becomes heal as well as a card draw. The Channel Pain becomes 23 damage for zero energy and lets you draw a card. Once you have all these components, your objective is to thin your deck as much as possible, allowing you to drastically increase the chance of pulling off the combo on the very first turn. On the really high torment levels, if you can't pull of this infinite combo, you will eventually lose because some opponents will damage for around 100+ damage in one turn. You really need to get all the components. stubbieoz likes this. JeremyMD New Member Sep 23, 2019 2 1 3 Male #14 JeremyMD, Sep 23, 2019 What other card battler games would you recommend? Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #15 Ringerill, Sep 24, 2019 Sure, would love to recommend them! "Silent Abyss" is a nice one with a nice gimmick of having 2 characters with separate decks (you can also try to solo). You can level up, unlock cards and interactions and upgrades when you finish the dungeon. Quite cheap and contains only a smal IAP for a character unlock. It doesn’t seem that there will be updates but the game is enough as it is. "Night of the Full Moon" is also a fun one with different classes and builds to try out. There are some IAPs But are cheap and correspond to previous expansions. Good news is the recent updates allowing to play offline. Also, you have all cards unlocked right from the start (and some more from achievements) so you might feel lost at the beginning. The devs release updates regularly. "Pirates Outlaws" is one of my favorite! Many updates, many characters, really diverse and strategic. It does have IAP but you can ignore them (double coins or reputation for instance). However, you will have to grind quite a lot coins to unlock new "dungeons", characters and cards. Still it’s not a problem because everytime you play, you are rewarded with coins and xp and the frequent free updates justify the IAP to support the devs. "Spellsword cards Origins" is a more complicated one with a possibility to mix races, spécialisation and element into a deck (you can build an Orc Mage of Fire or an Elf Bard of Light). The personalization is a nice feature and adds a roleplaying side to the game. "Dimension of Dreams" is another one with a mechanic of combo cards with ressources to cast them. A quite complicated one but the graphics are really nice and the strategy you have to create really keeps you trying again and again. It is maintained but a a slow pace. 3 new characters were announced from the start (Necromancer, Archer and Priest) but only the Necromancer has been released with no news about the rest. Still, the devs are active so I am looking forward to these new classes (they are unlocked through IAPs btw). Just to mention some other noteworthy card games: "Void Tyrant", "Frost - survival card game", "Endless Road". Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #16 Talbs, Sep 24, 2019 And if I may chime in with a couple of others. Assuming we are talking about iOS. Dream Quest - the graphics are terrible (although story has it a graphical reboot is in tow), but this is the Grandaddy of them all. Tough as nails, but quite structure so you can learn your enemies decks and what counters well. Royal Booty Quest - terrible name and terrible graphics and all round mediocre implementation BUT, you don’t even need to look close to see that this is a 0.8 to 1 copy of slay the spire. Cards are exact same, trinkets are exact same. Enemies differ a fair bit to StS, so do events and other things. Take it the dev just couldn’t quite copy those aspects, but otherwise it’s a half decent implementation to muck around with while we wait for StS to come to mobile (said before end of this year). Card Quest - different formula and quite unit. Your decks are structured in sections depending on your loadout. You don’t earn individual cards, but rather you unlock equipment which makes up several cards. It’s a really tightly structured game. If you can get past the terrible font they chose, then this one is a beast. Solitairica deserves a mention. It’s solitaire with a cool perks twist. And if you want just straight up deck building in a single match, then that’s Ascension.
