All guides are text-only to avoid any copyright issues with the gaming companies, but they are broke down by level or game section, and include FAQs, Secrets, etc. You can just take your iPod/iPhone with you while playing the game and pop it out when you need some help!

No more searching Google and browsing to various web sites looking for help. Best of all, these are FREE forever.

Video game guides fall within the US Copyright guideline laws of "fair use". Since we're not actually copying the game, just making a supplement of how to play the game, we are well within our legal rights to publish this guide. The fact that it's free helps even more in the eyes of copyright law. We are avoiding screenshots of the games for now until the guides are published on the App Store. We'll then look into our legal rights to see if we can update these apps with screenshots.

Most guides were actually used with permission from GameFAQ guide creators. Here are the advantages of the iPhone apps over GameFAQ:

    - Don't have to open Safari and zoom in with your fingers. No searching. No URL's.

    - The app uses a Navigation controller, so you can just jump to "Level 6" right away. There is no scrolling and searching in that regard.

    - The app has an icon of the actual game, so it's easy to find and jump to when you need to get to the guide.

    - The iPhone apps have rich text in parts of the guides, and will be updated with more later. They will be full HTML based, with screenshots possibly added in the future. GameFAQ just has plain text files for the most part.

    Enjoy!

They are apps for the iPhone/iPod Touch related to gaming. The links for download are right next to the guide title.

I guess the guides are in app form, sort of like an e-book?

Yes, and navigation based. So you can quickly jump to a specific level walkthrough.

this kinda straddles the line between this forum and the regular app forum, but regardless, i find it to be a neat and convenient idea since i often do pretty much what your description says...safari gamefaqs then scroll your eyes off until they bleed.

    Thanks

I like the idea... I think I wore out my screen playing LEGO Star Wars for the Wii.

    Thanks!

I would much much rather prefer this type of app for section splitting on GameFAQs, RTF cleanup etc on ONE app that just has updates to add to its database of games. I play a lot of games and it would be dissapointing to fill up a page on just guides.

Don't worry, this is in the works... for now it will by game-by-game, but in the future we will have an app that combines everything. Don't worry :)

Awesome! I would pay a few bucks for it, too! :) Better than having to zoom and tap through GFaqs. Especially when you get to enormous guides like RPGs having a section breakdown will be invaluable!

I'll pick up the Halo one just to see what it's like... Any chance we'll see a Fallout 3 guide soon?

Despite having fully completed all the available games you currently have guides for (with the exception of Halo 3... Halo never did interest me), I downloaded the Zelda guide just to see how it looks. I must say, I do like the way all sections are made easily accessible. I was using GameFAQ on Safari for Ninja Gaiden Sigma and it was really annoying to have to keep pinching to zoom in and out.

The only suggestion I would make is in regards to maps. I know you said you haven't included images for copyright reasons (which is understandable) but how about drawing out maps of the different areas? I find that the Stratergy Guides that Prima release (though usually official) cleverly implement hand drawn maps which show locations of key items and are usually numbered to coincide with a particular section of the main guide. For example, when describing how to find a specific treasure it would say, "See number 2 on Map 4" in closes brackets. Then on map 4 there will be a number 2 (yeah, I know what that sounds like) in say the top right corner of the map. It's not really 'essential' but I think it would help people who really do get lost whilst playing. Again though, I'm not sure if drawing your own maps could be classed as copyright or not.

I'll put it on my list. Anyone else want to request a specific guide? I can prioritize them that way.

    Coming this week:
    Grand Theft Auto 4
    New Super Mario Bros.

I would start at the top of this list going down with games from the last few years.

VERY neat idea. Glad to see something like this available. I don't have any of those particular games, but when one comes along, I'll probably download it. I used to take the GameFAQ texts and convert them over to my Palm. It sure is nice having stuff like this off-line where I can read it wherever I am.
