The upcoming and released game forums are so fast moving that games can be off the first page before they are really noticed. The same happened to me.
Or they're noticed but people simply don't care. I think that just happened to me. The App Market is a harsh mistress and I can't seem to even get to first base...
Well I think everyone's game from this post looks awesome . Only thing we can do is keep promoting. It's as much effort as developing the game! So far I'm only seeing a tiny bit of success (staying positive here). Hoping for some cross promotion thing with our 2nd..3rd game heh. Definitely looking more closely what what games gets a lot of user feedback from TA forums. It seems if a game is reviewed on TA it has a good chance of showing up on appstore. goodluck
try a differnt artstlye... think of the game like cooking mama... make it a bit more difficult. and faster and promote it to many website sites. you can also add a cute character in there...9 not a thumb like some people are saying) and let people know why we are cutting shapes? how about food or something like that
Thanks for the replies also, guys! I noticed some feedbacks in Cannon Land's topic. It helped me stay visible for a while.
almost one year later we made a new game based on the same concept, and been featured by apple, thanks for all the great advices you guys gave to me Cut the Zombies!!! The zombies are coming. It's time to use your sword to save the world! slash all the zombies into pieces! The rules are simple:- Kill zombies by cutting them.- Don't cut the falling villagers.- Cut pumpkins into as many pieces as possible, for a bonus score.- Cut several zombies in a row to rack up combos. The more combos you get, the higher the score. The game includes three modes:- Classic Mode: kill zombies in a non-stop fashion. One cut, one kill.- Arcade Mode: some zombies will need more than one cut to kill. If you let 10 chunks of zombie reach the ground, they will spawn a zombie, and you lose a life. Luckily you are equipped with a Power Cut, which, when fully charged, allows you to perform multiple cuts at once(won't hurt villagers) . The arcade mode contains a lot of waves, and when starting a new game you can start at any wave you’ve previously completed.-Pumpkin Mode: just cut pumpkin into pieces ,enjoy the crazy fun. This game is Game Center enabled! Have fun collecting achievements, and competing over high scores with your friends on the leaderboards! One suggestion: the icon only communicates half of what's going on in the game, the zombies part. To get the "cut" part communicated you could add slice mark like in Fruit Ninja icon: There actually is that slice mark in one of your screenshots, I think something like that would make it pop more matt1413 Member Jan 3, 2010 13 0 0 #108 matt1413, Mar 30, 2011 I would agree with this and yea, the part of the second screenshot where the slice is would describe the game better than your current icon, even if your current icon is excellent polygrafix Well-Known Member Jun 26, 2010 58 0 0 Game Developer Las Vegas #109 polygrafix, Apr 1, 2011 ideas: You're going to need a few things to get you where you wanna be. I'm going to give you a good critique here. In my opinion- the game seems good, It's just not great, but it's good and thats a start. Whats missing is some personality. This is done through the art and the music, even the animations. It's just like the guy said- it's really about the presentation. Here are some tips i think will help. * Theme- Theres no central theme that would drive interest. What about stars falling from the sky? War, Cute animals, food, Arctic- whatever, put a theme to it- If you use a theme people relate to even better. * Graphics - This should follow the theme- but make sure to use some opacity maps in your the shapes so they aren't simple squares and such. - Like the skull for example. Also punch them up a bit. Give each of them a bit of character. The background is too generic as well. It can still remain subdued but interesting (as not to distract from gameplay) Something like an outdoor background - handpainted with a little gradient in it? * Animations/ particles. Everything seems to move at a consistent rate. A little physics - acceleration, etc, will go a long ways. * Music- I'm not sure about the game itself but the music in the video nearly put me to sleep- Does not excite one at all. you want people to get excited to make a purchase. That doesn't mean you have to have crazy techno pumping but the music is just way too sleepytime for someone to get enthused. * Marketing - You need a marketing plan. Start with the video you made- at minimal- redo it and add different music. Beyond that, I have a great resource i can share with you- I've written up a bit of a marketing booklet - which details what i've done- what has worked and what hasn't. I share it with anyone who asks- I just ask they don't reproduce it anywhere else (or any part thereof) its in my google docs so you need a gmail account to access it. Just shoot me an email (with your gmail account name) requesting access to the marketing doc. - Its that easy. I'm sure you will find it useful. I would agree with this and yea, the part of the second screenshot where the slice is would describe the game better than your current icon, even if your current icon is excellent
