I honestly doubt there will be no change, but at that point I wouldn't know what to do. Your best bet would probably be to have you or a parent contact Apple and relay the problem to them.

Hmm... Well, care to tell me what kind of Mac it is, or how old?

Did you unplug it or fiddle with the cord or anything when upgrading that iPod?

Just an update. i tried again with the ipod after i posted here and its now updated. Time to test it on the ipad now.

As for the op, maybe you should leave it to be done over night. If it still doesnt work, then you'll have no option but to unplug it. Use the home+power button to try and put the iPod in DFU mode. If that too fails then I hope your ipod is still under warranty. If the ipod is still under warranty, then you should be able to get it replaced easily. No idea how much apple will charge for it if it isnt.

Then everything should be pretty much standard.

Take ImNoSuperMan's advice from here, he knows better than I do.

Well, I had to download the latest iTunes and then downloaded the 4.2 update in less than 10 minutes, and then it took another 10+ minutes to sync and restart. I didn't have to wait 45 minutes and yes, the progress bar moved for me..

EDIT: This was for my iPad.
