      I originally bought an iPod touch with 2.0 software and later updated it to 3.0. Is it possible to update to 4.0, and if so, which features will be absent that are present on the iPhone 4?

      Welcome to TA, ignore all the people that will flame you for saying we already have a thread. Anyway, yes you can update to 4.0 and you will not have multitasking and home screen wallpaper, and a few other things.

      Yeah he will, he's on Touch 3G.

      The 3rd gen Touch came with OS 3.x. If he bought one with 2.0, he has a 1st or 2nd gen.
