Jonghwa Kim Member Jul 5, 2019 11 13 3 Male #9 Jonghwa Kim, Jul 5, 2019 Hi there, this is the developer, Jonghwa Kim @ HandMade Game, of ROOMS: The Toymaker's Mansion. Yes, the game is also available on Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch for $14.99 (with different name). Indeed, there's quite some history to tell with the game. The F2P version of the game has been released on mobile market in 2013 as «The Mansion: A Puzzle of Rooms», as some of you might remember. It has got great reviews and downloaded about 3 million copies then. However, we didn't make any money because of the faulty F2P & IAP business model, which we were forced to do by the publisher then. It is only recent that we got all the rights back with the mobile version of the game. We remastered the game thoroughly, removing all IAP stuff, adding 48 bonus levels, ending the stories, and polishing and polishing UX and art. We've soft-launched the game in Korea Google Play, and we've been getting great responses (Review Score 4.9) from both old and new players. Finally, ROOMS returned as a paid game globally on iOS and Android, as it should have 6 years ago. And just a few days ago, «ROOMS: The Toymaker's Mansion» won the TOP award 3 at 2019 Google Play Independent Games Festival Korea, recognizing the quality of the game and the hardship we've been through. With unique gameplay, 144 levels, beautiful art, and spooky storyline, we confidently ensure you that the game is worth the price Ringerill, Collin, Gambler and 4 others like this. dukat111 Well-Known Member Mar 23, 2010 514 94 28 #10 dukat111, Jul 5, 2019 @Jonghwa Kim Congrats on the relaunch! Are the basement levels made to be played as soon as the top level is complete or after all the top levels are completed first? Jonghwa Kim Member Jul 5, 2019 11 13 3 Male #11 Jonghwa Kim, Jul 5, 2019 Thanks They are made to be played as soon as you learn all gadgets from the mansion, which is about half of the levels. You can access them from the start though. Generally, once you unlock the next mansion, it'd be good time to start working on the basement levels. y2kmp3 Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2010 1,784 3 38 #12 y2kmp3, Jul 6, 2019 Hi, Jonghwa Kim, Can you also explain the many other versions of this game that were previously released under different names, including Rooms: The Unsolvable Puzzle, Rooms: The Adventure of Anne & George, among other title names (if any)? What are the differences? More importantly, whether intentional or not, why are you releasing the game (even with minor differences) under so many different names? It seems very disingenuous to create such confusion of your game so to re-release it on different or same platforms. Jonghwa Kim Member Jul 5, 2019 11 13 3 Male #13 Jonghwa Kim, Jul 6, 2019 Last edited: Jul 6, 2019 You're totally right, and I'm quite regretful for being in this situation. It's kind of fastening-the-first-button-wrongly situation. -ROOMS: The Unsolvable Puzzle = Original name of the title. It had something to do with the original story which is deprecated. This got stuck when I used it on the Steam version in 2015. (should have used different name here) -The Mansion: Puzzle of Rooms = F2P version published by Com2Us. Upon the publisher's request, we changed the title to this when releasing the F2P mobile version. I think it's well done, cuz we didn't want to make the game like that anyway. -ROOMS: The Adventure of Anne & George = Nintendo Switch version. The publisher added Co-Op play and wanted to change the name to highlight the co-op feature. Yes, Switch version has Co-Op, new character, new story. -ROOMS: The Toymaker's Mansion = The remastered mobile version's name. When re-releasing the mobile version, I didn't want to use the 'Unsolvable Puzzle' title, as it has negative connotation and doesn't really fit the game. Even though it's quite late, I wanted to change the name that fits the game most. So.. that's how it's became. I know it's kind of a mess.... but at least for the mobile version, I like the changed title. I am saddened to hear the unhappy development relationship you had with Com2uS. I played the Com2uS release and finished it only because I paid significant amount of money to unlock the full game and recharge the keys. I also remembered playing Rooms: The Main Building on the PC which features a completely different character (not just the main protagonist, but the "chest" sidekick). You advertised that the current game is a "sequel" to that game. Are the levels in this current game all different from those in that game? As well, compared to the Com2uS version (which I recall to having only 72 puzzles divided over 3 themed mansions), what are the new additions available in the current game? Regardless, I really love the core mechanic of your game. It is very clever. I also love the artistic style of the game, both the original and the updated versions. Jonghwa Kim likes this. Jonghwa Kim Member Jul 5, 2019 11 13 3 Male #15 Jonghwa Kim, Jul 6, 2019 There's a lot of behind stories with this game, but thankfully its all sorted out Glad to see the Rooms1 player here! There are some levels that's same, mostly the basic levels in Theme1, but it develops differently as we introduce different objects like magnet, puppets, gas, .... Generally, we tried to reduce the dead-end situation as much as possible by reducing one-way mechanic. Compared to the Com2Us version, there are 144 levels (96 main storyline levels with finished two endings + 48 bonus basement levels), removed all IAP/Ads/Leaderboards stuff, streamlined UX, polished UI / Art, ... etc. There are 4 new mechanics in the basement levels per each costume. (yeah, we reused the asset) Student (theme1) can teleport to a telephone from anywhere using a cellphone. Saboteur (theme2) can use a bomb like a bomberman. Engineer (theme3) can only move the room that she is NOT in. It's like the rule reversed. Scientist (theme4) moves all rooms altogether. You can imagine rooms move like Thress or 2048. Thank you for enjoying Rooms for so long long time. I really appreciate it Collin, dukat111 and raravan like this. y2kmp3 Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2010 1,784 3 38 #16 y2kmp3, Jul 7, 2019 I am glad to see all of the new mechanics being added to this latest game. You have convinced me to give this game another try, at least to solve the new levels that I have not played before in the previous release. Can you explain a bit more about how the costume / theme power will alter the stock solutions? I don't quite understand this extra gameplay from the app store description of the game. Do you mean that for these basement levels there is a distinct solution which is possible with each of these costume powers? In other words, can these levels be replayed 4 times to get all 4 possible solutions? Any plan to bring the co-op play mode to the mobile version? Jonghwa Kim Member Jul 5, 2019 11 13 3 Male #17 Jonghwa Kim, Jul 7, 2019 Okay, to answer the costume question, each costume is just a representation of mechanic twist that is unique per each basement levels. In theme 1 basement, you can only use Student costume and you got 12 puzzles using its cellphone ability. Same goes to the rest 3 themes. Costumes are not interchangeable between different themes. This should make easy sense once you play the game. Regarding the Co-Op levels, no, we can't. The Co-Op feature is developed by the Switch version publisher and they have exclusive right to use it for the Switch version.
