Impossible questions, but in them lie the key to humanity’s survival. Now, millions of miles away from home, a micrometeoroid storm has left us with a severely damaged ship, two deceased crew, and the sneaking suspicion this trip was doomed from the start. Tharsis is a turn-based space strategy game. With dice. And cannibalism. It puts you in control of humanity’s first mission to Mars, just as it’s struck by a micrometeoroid storm. You must guide your crew through disasters, food shortages, and the unforgiving nature of space — all while maintaining your sanity amidst cryptic signals and warnings from Mars. Defy the odds, make the difficult decisions, and embark on the most important mission in human history. Succeeding in Tharsis requires you to make the best of what you have, even if it happens to be a pair of snake eyes. Certain factors may be outside of your control, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be overcome. Tharsis is not a game about facing the odds. It’s a game about changing them. Hmm. gfidge Member Jan 21, 2017 6 1 3 #6 gfidge, Jun 28, 2019 Purchased and had 1x play through...first impressions... The tutorial only does an ok job of explaining the basics of the game (still confused by decisions I may be able to make and the impact they would have within the game). I don’t mind the aspect of rolling dice to achieve outcomes however my first impression is that One Deck Dungeon, Pathfinder Adventures and Hostage Negotiator do it a lot better (are more enjoyable). I’ll continue to give it a go but for how long... Collin likes this. Edit: I tested it myself, the ratings are 50% to 50%! For example: Damage control on a space mission using good old Yahtzee. Does it make sense? No! Is it fun? Not really! It kinda sucks, but in a good way. Avoid if you have anger management issues when confronted with the unfairness of life. An Exploding Dice mechanic of some sort would have counterbalanced effectively the ridiculously punishing RNG. - April 27, Fab Mariani So to me it sounds incredibly frustrating, and I tend to get enough of that on a daily basis that I don't need my games to also punish me "unfairly". But I can't deny there's also an appeal to the game. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #9 skoptic, Jul 2, 2019 Having watched some vids I’m quite keen, although have such a backlog it’s not biting my arm off. Definitely high up on wish list. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #10 skoptic, Jul 9, 2019 I bought...I like! It’s brutal but great - same quality as One Deck Dungeon, don’t think it has progression though. Definite 4 or 5 star for me nickhoola likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
