I see it streamed on Twitch all the time. I finally checked it out though I guess it's not for me. I thought it could be a single player or multiplayer thing but it just seems like a competitive multiplayer / collecting game. Face-rolled with a 6 Feathered and 4 Knight combo. Tl;dr: As far as I can tell, it’s legit, down to the stats of the units themselves. This looked exactly like what is seen in many YouTube videos showing off the beta, example below: They not only ported over the concept, but the stats and the synergy types (almost like they just did Find and Replace with every single named thing in the game). Example: the Elves in the Dota 2 mod are exactly the Feathered in this game, right down to the stats of the individual pieces. Heck, the Druid mechanics also remain the same. The vast majority of development time was put into the voice work (even though it’s Chinese), and the artwork and visuals and the in-game performance. To be honest (I played quite a bit of the Dota 2 mod) it’s a lot more smooth and optimized for mobile when compared to the original, and the strategies with positioning and piece selection that worked in the Dota 2 mod will work in this game exactly. It’s the exact same stats with the exact same pieces and the exact same synergy types and items, simply reskinned for the stand-alone game. The game defaults to 60fps, meaning that unless you want to ruin your reaction time by doing 30fps mode the only thing you can blame your bad performance on is a spotty connection (internet hiccups at the place I’m staying at, luckily it was stable enough for the test match) or an older phone that can’t handle going that fast. Regarding the art style, it is very child-friendly in the round chibi features and cuteness overload with many of the pieces. However, the soul of the pieces from the original Dota 2 mod remains mostly intact, and I was thoroughly impressed how they reworked the Dota 2 heroes into something a lot more original. It does lose some of the cool factor that the Dota 2 heroes had (The big upgrades for the different pieces are not as flashy as they were in the mod) but it does mean that the in-game performance remains consistent and the art style is more unified, rather than the usual MOBA grab-bag. If you wanted Auto Chess Mobile, this is exactly that. The only monetization is for cosmetics and skins for your avatar, and chat emotes, and account portraits, and I’m sure some other minor cosmetic stuff I probably missed. You unlock stuff slowly, but it seems like grinding to look cool might be viable. Maybe. Ok I don’t know about free-to-Play cosmetic viability as that takes longer with the game, but nothing screamed out as red flags in the monetization. I kinda miss running your avatar around the board in the Dota 2 mod, though. In this one, the avatar just stays on the sidelines while your fingers do all the work. Ehh, a minor thing Make of my impressions whatever you will. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
