Gwarmaxx Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2010 4,446 376 83 NCC 1701 #3 Gwarmaxx, May 7, 2019 yeah, i was waiting for this one, but i thought the price would have been lower, considering that surely many expansions will come out like a waterfall in a near future... i largely prefer the Playdeck/Asmodee model for Ascension since day one, ie a lower price (even free subsequently) for the introductory game and then make money with the following expansion, it’s more reasonable imo. lezrock, stubbieoz, PBSNellie and 1 other person like this. Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,615 377 83 #4 Talbs, May 7, 2019 How many expansions for this game are there? I only see one - “Relics of the future”. Assuming that is the case, it’s not really a waterfall situation and I’m not sure an Ascension pricing model could be applied. Certainly I think the notion of releasing this as free is out of the question. Not to mention that there currently isn’t an expansion to buy in the app at the moment, so the devs would’ve done all that hard work to release the game for zero income now? So then I think we move on to price point as a premium game. So what are you suggesting? In the scheme of things, I don’t think 8 dollars is all that far off what you might be thinking if it did (and it does) take the premium route. Anyway. Sucks we at a price talk convo. The game on its own merits is great. I need to give it some more time when I can, but happy to have it in with my blend of Ascension and Star Realms. We have heaps of deck building roguelites, but true deck building board games we don’t have so many of so this is very welcome and at a premium price. DTK, Pitta and raravan like this. I've spent thousands on iOS games so I need to pickier about which games I play, especially Ascension type games where they are bound to continue making expansions. All in all, it needs to be a game I'll consistently play rather than something I'll play just once a month or something meh. There's mixed reviews about the beta on Steam but I've always like Ascension. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1008800/Shards_of_Infinity/ Pitta Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2008 3,417 138 63 Male Italy #6 Pitta, May 7, 2019 For what is worth (I was in the beta) it’s imho hands down the best async deckbuilder on the AppStore, period. If you have some friends (or just fire up the 30 mins online matches) you will play this in the thousands of games figures. It’s Ascension sequel, it’s like the child of Ascension and Star Realms, it adds some deceptively minor new mechanics that in reality make a ton of difference. It’s really approachable but super deep, with a ton of possible (winning) strategies. It has even space for some glorious comebacks if you are really good at the game. Yeah, I’m case it wasn’t clear I love the game (knew NOTHING about the real life game, mind you). lezrock, chengchisang, DTK and 1 other person like this. You have 3 AI levels (AI is developed over Keldon neural network, same as the excellent Race for the Galaxy. Even if the game is out I know they are ‘feeding’ it with hundreds of games each week to let the AI learn and improve, something that was very noticeable during every week of the beta). Games are 2-3 or 4 players (AI or real or any mix). While I still occasionally play against hard AI, these kind of games (imho) really shine against human opponents. Some strategies are CRAZY. You can set up games with all sort of timers, against random people or friends (or any mix). Game manages friends lists and keep track of win/lost games stats for every mode. Have a half an hour and want a fast game? Set the timer to 30 mins (that’s your total gaming time, if you fail to take your turns in that timeframe, you forfait). Want to have an ongoing game with a very busy friend? Set the timer to 1 week or unlimited. Right now it’s super easy and fast to find any type of game avaible. If both player are online a game can take 15-20 minutes. More if they are both really good and use all kinds of counterattacks and regeneration. AI is solid anyway if you prefer so. lezrock likes this. Ok so you say you prefer a different price basically (and don’t hide it behind a “model” you’re not even going to detail, but just provide some anecdotal evidence of Ascension that isn’t even necessarily totally comparable here). You want it cheaper is what you want). To that, I say, no dude, $8 is fine, let’s remunerate the devs well for their hard work. Anyway, About the “near future expansion” thing. You don’t know that (oh but please don’t try pull me up here too because you were only proving anecdotal evidence of what happened with Ascension right?...Yeh well you don’t know what the plans are with this game and no expansion is out on iOS yet is it, and there’s only one in the real world right now anyway). You missed the point of my original post completely. The devs should be remunerated now for their hard work. And I mentioned the free part to cover all bases of the pricing ‘issue’ you’ve now raised. After all, you allude to a possible pricing model like Ascension. Yeh well as it stands, ASCENSION BASE GAME IS FREE, so I think I’m well within bounds to cover the possibility that you’d “prefer” that. You said you wanted it cheaper, highlighting the word prefer or whatever is just trying to back out of me calling it out. Not having anymore of this pricing talk and now belittling people’s reading.
