ABOUT THIS GAME: Set on a distant uncharted & hostile planet, where descendants of a crashed colony ship endure the harsh wasteland while hoping for salvation. However, decades have passed without contact from the fleet and skirmishes between different factions over limited resources have escalated. A full blown war of conquest looms on the horizon that could risk humanity's fragile existence on this harsh new world. As the chaos approaches, you take the role as the leader of a rag-tag bunch of scavengers / mercenaries. Your goal is to scavenge, trade, sabotage, hunt, fight and help conquer your way to fame and glory. Along the journey, you will meet allies that will join in the struggle to survive the wasteland, and perhaps together, you can unravel the mystery on the origins of the colony and change the fate of all those who call this barren world home. KEY FEATURES: * A world where your choices matters as the factions try to survive and wage wars of conquest. * A highly dynamic economic simulation ensures not only your actions carry consequences and present new opportunities, but also the actions of various NPCs. * Competitive gameplay that involves other free roaming NPC scavengers that fulfill the same role as the player. They can trade, scavenge resources, take on missions, and fight hostile raiders or xenos. Competition can be fierce, so beware! * Recruit and equip your squad with many different weapons, each providing a unique balance and tactical options. Train their combat skills as they gain levels, and specialize them further with a selection of many perks. * Hunt the xenobeasts on this hostile world and use their skin, carapace, and organs in crafting useful items and armor. * A sandbox that is also character & story-driven, with an sci-fi story themed on loss, duty and personal responsibility, along with side-quests and random encounters. Additional Notes: I am a solo developer and I lack the resources to support other languages, as such, the game is English only. The reviews on Steam where mostly positive and possibly there is a great and compelling game under the hood but it plays so counter intuitive that I’m gonna pass. I’m willing to struggle with hard adversaries but not with the controls. Pushing a question mark to enter a town, pushing the question mark to see the names of products, pushing the question mark again to effectively buy the product. Using a virtual joystick to see more of the map that springs back once you let go so you have to look at the unexplored environment on the fly. Sorry but that’s to tedious for my liking and in my very personal opinion a matter of lazy programming or conversing from pc to tablet. Text is to small on 12,9 inch tablet and the input to narrow in conversation and places. It just doesn’t play relaxing and nice so I’m out. Ringerill and ColeDaddy like this. I am still leaning towards trying it since Battle Brothers is not available on mobile. Maybe this one will satisfy that itch.... Dragan Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2014 365 7 18 Belgium #4 Dragan, Apr 25, 2019 Go ahead, if you have a similar experience, like me you can always ask for a restitution. I’m very curious to know if my remarks where to harsh or deserved. If you can, and are happy to throw away your first game and restart once you have worked out how to play then there is a great game here and one that is well worth the money! My first computer was a zx81 (before user interfaces even existed) so I am more than happy to put the the time in lol! JP Falcon Active Member Sep 27, 2013 42 1 8 #6 JP Falcon, Apr 26, 2019 Yes the user interface is indeed terrible and sometimes you wonder why developers feel the need to make simple elements of the game so infuriating to execute. And the tutorial is not the best either but, if I simply pass on two coffees, I paid for this, so I hope some updates down the road will smooth things out.... moms pubis Member Jan 4, 2012 14 1 3 #7 moms pubis, Apr 26, 2019 Disappointing to hear that the interface works so poorly with a touchscreen. I played this dev's last game, Star Nomad 2, and it had the same problem. I had hoped that they would have figured it out by now. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #8 skoptic, Apr 27, 2019 Thanks for the feedback all, I care quite a bit about UI and UX, so will remove from wish list - thanks. chengchisang Well-Known Member May 25, 2018 119 31 28 #9 chengchisang, Apr 27, 2019 Pocket Tactics will have a review soon, I have made a seat on the fence, for now. AH_Phan Well-Known Member Aug 27, 2014 275 4 18 #10 AH_Phan, May 8, 2019 UI is still my weakness unfortunately, and its quite difficult to translate these types of games from mouse/keyboard. I got an update through to increase the size of some of the icons, made text a little larger and improve the fullscreen scaling without black bars. Hopefully its better to the point where the UI isn't a hindrance to the gameplay. AH_Phan Well-Known Member Aug 27, 2014 275 4 18 #11 AH_Phan, May 11, 2019 Pocket Tactic's review is out: https://www.pockettactics.com/reviews/nomads-of-the-fallen-star/ It's a very fair review, I have no qualms with it, I knew the biggest problem was the UI, and I've been thinking how to make it better for the past week. The update is live today on the App Store, in version 1.03 there's a few major changes to the touch interface to make it not a hindrance to the gameplay. Firstly, the camera panning was poorly implemented by me earlier, not sure why I thought it was a good idea at the time to use a d-pad for camera. But now it's changed to a simpler 2-finger touch and scroll around the map, it works much better. It also works while paused. The other biggest hassle was the tooltip function, where players had to toggle via tapping the [?] icon to change from Info vs Action mode. ie, you had to toggle Info mode, then tap over NPCs, goods, items, locations, etc, to get the tooltip. Then change it to Action mode by tapping the [?] again, then tap on whatever it was before to do something. Now it's been made simpler and quicker to use. You tap on something to do the action, but if you want info, you tap & hold your finger there for a split second and the tooltip pops up. The [?] now popups a brief mini-tutorial depending on whether its in battle, town or on the worldmap. Text was made slightly larger and most of the icons were made bigger too. My eyes are old and I wear glasses, but I don’t think that’s the problem. Maybe it’s a graphic “enhancement” like bloom or something but I just don’t like it at all. Can anyone confirm that the iOS version is indeed blurry? JasonLL Well-Known Member Feb 21, 2014 546 106 43 Male #13 JasonLL, May 14, 2019 A bit blurry on my iPad Pro but it may be a bit of a stylistic choice and a bit of a tech limitation. The map screen and town / city pictures come across like a watercolor and maybe there are scaling issues with 2D assets on larger screens. stubbieoz likes this. stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,880 358 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #14 stubbieoz, May 14, 2019 Thanks JasonLL. Got the Pro as well so I think I will give it a miss. One of the reasons I spent the extra on this tablet was the retina display. I like the clear and crisp screen so blurry is not welcome to me, no matter what the cause. chengchisang Well-Known Member May 25, 2018 119 31 28 #15 chengchisang, Jun 26, 2019 It is on sale now, is it worth the price?
