Take the role of gritty Police Chief Jack Boyd, and come face to face with the ugly underbelly of Freeburg, a city spiraling the drain. Will Jack reach his retirement with a nice stack of bills, or will he end up broken ... or worse? Manage your staff, respond to emergencies, and investigate crimes in a city on the brink of chaos. The mafia underworld maneuvers behind the scenes, sinking their claws ever deeper into the city, even as the mayor is ready to exploit every situation to his political advantage. Choose your approach to each situation as it unfolds. Sometimes you’ll be responding to a developing crisis at a crime scene, or negotiating with Freeburg’s crime bosses. Sometimes you’ll find yourself dodging questions in the press room, or even the occasional cross-examination in the witness box. Can you keep this pressure cooker from exploding, at least for long enough to stash away a nice retirement nest egg? - Your mission is clear: make 0,000 in 180 days before Jack Boyd reaches retirement. How? That’s up to you! - Decisions, decisions! This Is the Police is all about a dark story and how you react to it. Whatever you decide, your choices will influence the game – and the fate of Jack Boyd. - The Good, the Bad, and... the Ugly? The Chief of Freeburg's Police Department deals with all kind of people. It is up to you to find the bad guys and decide how to deal with them. - Carry out your duties. As head of Freeburg PD, Jack deals with all sorts of challenges every day: responding to emergencies, managing his officers, defending the department against City Hall and a corrupt mayor, and much more. - Solve Investigations and gather evidence against the criminal gangs of Freeburg. - Deal with the competing powers of the city. Everyone offers you favors, and each one comes at a price. Rich and fully voiced story: Jack Boyd is portrayed by Jon St. John, the voice of Duke Nukem. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #6 Quoad, Dec 12, 2018 OK, I've now played 2 days. Which might not sound like a lot. But the story is pretty extensive #rofl. The video / cutscenes are also - afaict - only either ENTIRELY skippable or NOT AT ALL skippable. So it's not possible to swish through lines at reading pace, for example. The voice acting is tremendous, the script is entertaining (but 100% adult material - strip bars, prostitutes and police corruption in the opening scenes), and the art - IMO - appealing. So, yeah. I usually chafe at story. Particularly narrated story. I begrudgingly appreciate this (and sat through it all for the first two days. There is a fair bit.) The gameplay - the gameplay I've encountered so far, at least - is essentially roster and incident management. Choose with cops (how loyal / how tired) to send to which crime scenes, with choices of cops affecting outcomes. This is pretty stripped down compared to TITP2 (wherein each copper has scores on each of - IIRC 5 - specifically-described attributes, which can be levelled up, and which affect their skills / choices / efficacy in various scenarios). There's also not - as of yet - any choice about buying equipment (in TITP2 the number of villains you bag = how many beer tokens you get, which allows the purchasing of officers and equipment). But, hmmm. There is cash. And a corruption narrative is pretty prominent, with me apparently attempting to get up to $500k (or perhaps $1m) through corruption over the next 176 days. So... I'll be interested in seeing how and where that cash can be used. There are also top-down tactical elements in TITP2, which I haven't yet encountered. Perhaps they'll appear. Vignettes / decisions HAVE appeared (how are you going to bust this bloke?), though not as frequently in TITP2 (perhaps because of the lack of specified / individualised copper-skills). Checkpoints could be more liberally deployed - at the start of every day atm, which risks losing a lot of time (video skips aside) if you close down the game in a hurry / at an untimely moment. IDK, potentially including a whole day's work, if you quit during a post-day cutscene?! Will see how that works. TL;DR - like the feel of it so far. Story is tremendous. Gameplay so far is reminiscent of TITP2 (which I like, a lot) but I feel as if I'm right at the start. Sort of hope it picks up a bit, as what I've seen to date probably isn't quite enough to sustain 180 days! Will see. And introduces sick and blagging (shift-dodging) coppers - first one wants to duck off and help his mates at an animal shelter. Like that. Oh, and hiring and firing. I have narrowed it down to a few very specific questions: 1) does either of them have a time limit or fail the game or can you play indefinitely, even screw up and try to fix it? 2) does either have a “point of no return” where you screw up too badly and have to restart the whole game or can it make use of save slots to try and salvage the situation 3) does either of them have multiple endings based in what you choose like go corrupt or not or inbetween? 4) do they both have readable fonts for iphones? some say the first has a better narrative, some say 2 has improved on the gameplay, so if someone can help answering these i can decide for myself. ste86uk likes this.
