If you're asking about the energy drink, they're just cheat collectibles meant as a bonus. Use them to get up if you bail, instead of watching a reward video if you want to keep going and not start a new run. You can also use them to cheat past any goals that are too hard (useful for unlocking career levels without beating previous levels). It's not an 'energy' / pay to play / paywall kind of thing. Don't worry, they're abundant. You find one every run in endless (after the S.K.A.T.E. letters are collected), they're pretty common in crates, and there's even a perk to increase the pickup spawn chance. We had a bug with iPhone X regarding some combination of home button, and the hover notch, and the edge gesture causing ui to get covered, but no X users had reported loss of control. New build is going up later today. Hopefully, it's something to do with this but we'll jump on trying to reproduce (thanks for the detailed circumstances). Don't worry, there is no paywall that will force you to buy crates (with $$) to get coins. Fastest way to progress (without spending $$) is beating goals and daily challenges to earn crates. Also (pro tip), these perks are the speed progression perks (very powerful when upgraded): - "Coin Multiplier" (can be upgraded all the way to 10x on top of your permanent coin doubler) - "Mo Crates n Coin" (increases max crate pickups per run, all the way to 5x when upgraded, and also multiplies number of coins in crates) When you start to get deeper into progression, perks become really useful (also for helping beat harder goals).
