Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #4 Boardumb, Apr 20, 2018 Oh weird, it definitely didn't have that when I first posted the thread, I made sure to check! I'll investigate what it's about. Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #5 Boardumb, Apr 20, 2018 Ok, spent a few minutes with it. Interesting game. It's definitely less of a shooter than Starfox or Arc Squadron. It feels more like an auto-runner mixed with gallery shooting sequences. You'll fly through the terrain on a guided path and swipe up/down/left/right to avoid running into stuff and to collect orbs. Occasionally you'll stop to fight a boss or blast your way past a barrier. This is done by way of targets popping on the screen and you having to tap them before a short timer runs out. There are targets you're supposed to hit, and targets you aren't, and if you hit one of the ones you aren't supposed to you'll die and go back to the last checkpoint (the checkpoints seem pretty frequent so this is fine). That's why it reminds me of a tap-to-shoot gallery shooter, when you're frantically trying to shoot enemies and out of nowhere a civilian pops up and you have to NOT shoot them. That's what the shooting sequences feel like here. Seems a little rough around the edges overall, with a few weird graphical pop-ins when a level loads and kind of amateurish UI design. Doesn't seem like a BAD game at all, but if you're expecting a space shooter where you're doing the aiming and shooting yourself, this isn't it. Definitely only like Arc Squadron at a very basic level. For what it is though it's pretty fun? I'm definitely compelled to keep going. The IAP: When you die you have an option of continuing by spending a gem, which you start with ten of but can buy more in pretty typical IAP packs. Since checkpoints seem plentiful I can't imagine ever really needing to use the continue gems, or ever needing to buy more unless you wanted to. Kind of a shame they're included at all then, but this definitely isn't a paid game with hidden free to play stuff. Those gems are the only IAP. But as mentioned in the post above, we designed the game without iap in mind in the first place. But if we generally get the feedback that people don't like IAP, we will consider removing it (or at least tone it down significantly) in the first update And yes we definitely tried to mix elements of endless-runner games with elements from rail shooters like Arc Squadron. We did'nt want to clone Arc Squadron/Star Fox but rather create a new experience Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #9 Boardumb, Apr 20, 2018 Oh yeah, I definitely think the IAP is more than reasonable. Probably TOO reasonable if you're hoping to make much money from it. My concern is just for the people who see IAP of any kind and instantly run the other way. Cool game though. I was definitely thinking it was going to be a more freeform shooter where you're on-rails but still able to aim and stuff, but I think knowing now that it's closer to a runner mixed with a gallery shooter it's actually really well done. It's one of those things where if you're expecting one thing and then get another there's an initial feeling of disappointment, but continuing to play and appreciating this game for what it actually is I find I rather like it. RaventurnPatrick Member Apr 20, 2018 9 0 1 #10 RaventurnPatrick, Apr 20, 2018 Glad to hear that you like the game for what it is I think with these types of games people generally have a very clear picture of what they should play/feel like. But we nevertheless wanted to try something different. We really hope that this type of game will be interesting to a bigger audience while still being appreciated by the core audience. I think once you get to the later levels (or ultra hard mode) you will see the benefits of using such seemingly "toned down" game mechanics that feel a little more restricted sakara214ever Well-Known Member May 10, 2012 1,262 168 63 #11 sakara214ever, Apr 20, 2018 Yeah.... Can you try turning down the graphics for the first level (could be a problem with the pixel shader thats used) - you should go into options and set the graphics quality lower then 50% - maybe 40% or so. From the 2nd level on it should work again. If thats the case please reply here, or shoot me a pm - or write to [email protected]. We will try to get a fix into the next update, if possible. inthismoment07 Active Member Aug 12, 2014 39 0 0 #20 inthismoment07, Apr 23, 2018 Last edited: Apr 23, 2018 Thanks for the response. I turned the graphics setting to 40% and it made it past the cut scene. Game is playable now. I'll try turning the setting back up on the second level, see how that goes. I've really liked what I've played on my phone so far. I'm a sucker for anything space related. Turned the graphics setting back to 100% on the second level. Chugged like crazy lol. Messed around with the slider and it plays great between 65-70%. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
