I very much wanted a system similar to SSX. The original control was touch to begin a jump and release to jump, and you could jump off anything (like SSX). As we added more freestyle controls it just got messier and messier. I still want to revisit more ways to dictate control over what you do, but without placing a bunch of messy virtual buttons on the screen. You will also find that as you advance up in Rank, more and different challenges will come up (the game delivers new challenges daily) that start to add more objectives and things to accomplish.
