We are an independent team of 3 Blizzard and Riot alumni and we are super excited to finally bring Defend the Cake to mobile after launching on Steam this last December. With Defend the Cake, we set out to create a tower defense game that is more palatable to a wider audience while still providing enough strategic depth for players that really want to sink their teeth in. We cooked up a cute and cartoony art style to entice players who are hungry for something different, and a smooth difficulty curve designed to be accessible to players unfamiliar with the genre. However, even seasoned tower defense veterans will find reaching the top of our leaderboards to be a considerable challenge! See you in the Cakedom! MulDeR Well-Known Member May 22, 2017 98 5 8 #2 MulDeR, Feb 8, 2018 Thoughts about this one? looks good, but seems a bit expensive... orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #3 orangecan, Feb 8, 2018 Im very intriuged by this, but I have a particular bug bear when it comes to make your own path TDs, in that I hate it when they introduce enemies that ignore paths and fly over. It used to really annoy me about Fieldrunners. Im well aware that I may be completely alone in this but if the Dev happens to read this Id appreciate an answer, more than happy to pay a premiumish price for a good TD but I cant do with the aforementioned Path ignoring.... Or alternatively Ill buy it anyway in an hour or so after a few more glasses of wine. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #4 orangecan, Feb 8, 2018 Well that didnt last long, I watched the trailer then hit the buy button. Ok, with a couple of caveats this is ace. Its got some really interesting TD mechanics going on. Basically you get a certain amount of actions to perform before every wave - building a wall, a tower, harvesting material etc. Then on the actual turn the wave starts and you kind of upgrade/power your towers while the wave attacks you, but you can only perform an action when youve got a free slot to do so (4 at the start of the game), and every time you do something theres a wait time until your engineer gets home again. My only real issue so far is that Im confused with what your actually doing when you upgrade your towers during the wave itself, I dont think your upgrading, I think you might be boosting power, purely because your towers never change appearance. It was explained in the tutorial but I dont think I was paying attention and I cant find a way to replay it. My other (very minor from my POV) issue is that theres no auto rotate. Im only 4 levels in but mightily impressed so far, its doing something a bit different (at least Ive never come across it before), it looks and sounds great and Im not for one moment regretting the five quid Ive spent on it. idislikejordan Well-Known Member Jan 7, 2018 78 24 8 #5 idislikejordan, Feb 9, 2018 Did a quick look. Was an expensive week for some of us with Dandara and Final Fantasy XV. Im interested in this and love premium TDs but am going to have to wait. machina Member Patreon Silver Jan 10, 2018 17 0 1 Game Designer Oakland #13 machina, Feb 10, 2018 Version 1.2.2 has been uploaded and will be deployed as soon as it gets through review. The crash was due to hooking up Game Center support. I've disabled Game Center for the time being so people can play, and will investigate how to get it working properly next week. I'm currently demoing the game at Minefaire, so I can't dig into the issue too deeply until I get home. Sorry for the crash o____0 Thanks for the suggestion ttcool, I'll look into hooking up iCloud sync! shaymon Well-Known Member Sep 3, 2013 278 1 18 #14 shaymon, Feb 11, 2018 I love TD games. I prefer set paths but I dont mind Defend The Cakes system. I am only 5 levels in so I am unsure what the game might hold later. But the thing it is missing for me is points to put into upgrades. Again- maybe it will cone into play after a few more levels but it doesnt seem so. I am liking the game but its just not hooking me atm. Ill play it some more and see what happens. But can anyone tell me what the worm does? I know if you kill it, it gives you a red gem which you can upgrade any units. But if you dont kill it, it just hide in the cake? jeffreymonte Member Feb 25, 2016 10 0 1 #17 jeffreymonte, Feb 15, 2018 Feels pretty simple compared to other TD Games I am a big fan of TD games but I feel that this game has a pretty simple mechanic/gameplay for its steep price. Nothing new here (Im on plate 6) and it just feels really bland. What is the point of leaderboard in this game other than having your name on a list? But please prove me wrong. machina Member Patreon Silver Jan 10, 2018 17 0 1 Game Designer Oakland #18 machina, Feb 26, 2018 We just released an update today! Nice game, pretty fun. The best part is that it is premium. Better than expected. Hope they keep adding stuff to it. Runs nicely on my Iphone 6 Plus. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
