StratAll Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2009 160 17 18 #3 StratAll, Jan 7, 2018 The Steam release was accompanied by 4 DLC options (extra player decks and the like, not consumables). Can someone tell if there is IAP in this release and what's included in the main game? Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #4 Avaniar, Jan 7, 2018 Well on the game page it says offers in game purchases, so i assume it must have the rest as dlc. Wow it's 8, but i reeeeally want this, and it ends up less espensive than the bg. Will do it later on and try to post some thought after i do. Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #5 Avaniar, Jan 7, 2018 So I took the plunge. It has 4 IAP, 3 of then roughly 4,50 euros and one 3,50. The three expensive ones have 2 books and 2 characters each. The lesset one has Mouse/mister and some card variants. This is an expensive game, but I find it less obscenely so that 8minute empire (at least in the beginning). The only thing I dislike about the base game is that you only have 3 characters, which does not give you any choices. The tutorial and the game are well implemented though. In the base game you get 5 books, 3characters and 2 game other game modes called random book and side jobs. StratAll Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2009 160 17 18 #6 StratAll, Jan 7, 2018 Thanks for the info. For comparison, the Steam release has 5 characters and 5 books. As you said, it is a bit expensive to get the full package, but I prefer this type of IAP over consumables. 5 books will give you a good idea of the gameplay (which is tactical and hard but fun and unique) and if you want more you can pick up the DLC that interest you the most. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #7 vectorarchitekt, Jan 7, 2018 Would someone mind explaining what you actually do in the game? Not familiar with the story or characters but I'm always up for a new mobile card game StratAll Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2009 160 17 18 #8 StratAll, Jan 7, 2018 In short, you control 1 or more characters with a deck of ability cards that interact with cases and enemy cards place in front of you. These cases and enemies come from a fixed deck called a book. Only there placement on the grid is different. You need to solve the cases and/or kill the enemies. Between these cards there are some obstruction cards you need to clear (they have a passive penalty when you don't like e.g. make enemies harder) and opportunity cards that give benefits (like e.g. give extra cards). You don't cycle through your deck but only get to play the cards you have once and you need to balance fate points by sacrificing some of your lesser cards to gain fate so you can spend it on using your other cards. Each character also has a passive and a stunt which is a once per game special move. In the end, when your hand is played there is a final showdown that lets you spend final fate on a last attempt to solve a case or defeat an enemy. In short : it is a sort of story based patience in which you need to plan out the order to play your hands to strategically remove cards on the grid to obtain the victory condition. Hope this helps, there should be some videos from the Steam version online to show gameplay. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #9 vectorarchitekt, Jan 7, 2018 Thank you, that helps a lot. Dragan Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2014 365 7 18 Belgium #12 Dragan, Jan 8, 2018 Is there some sort of high score list / win loss statistics in the game? Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #13 Avaniar, Jan 8, 2018 I like the game but i think it is too mechanical in the sense that I am a bit divided on "does it feel like you are in the book and part of the history?". The showdown is probably the worst part because unliie Dresden books, it feel anti climatic. It does not feel like a showdown, more like a "roll the dice to see if you have won". However, i don't think anyone would dislike it. People who like dresden have stuff here, people who like boardgames have stuff to like too. It's just, as a dresden and bg fan, i wanted more feeling. I wanted the game to feel like an adventure, not a mechanical boardgame. Because if you take the names out, it plays the same (though the abilities are cooly tied to the characters). yankeeblue000 Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2016 644 36 28 #14 yankeeblue000, Jan 8, 2018 Thank you. I really loved the books as a kid. A traditional rpg of the license or something like Joe Devers Lone Wolf game for iOS wouldve been sweet. Im not really into card games, though since gaming on iOS I have bought and played a few here and there that are really really good so Im thinking about picking this up on the license alone. Not sure tho. Im still on the fence. Im watching gameplay videos now to help me decide. mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #15 mzinn, Jan 9, 2018 I see it says the number of players 1-5. Hows this play as a single player? Do you play as more than one player or do you just play as one? Does that make it too hard? Thanks in advance RichardC Active Member Mar 12, 2011 29 5 3 #16 RichardC, Jan 9, 2018 As someone that owns the board game and all expansions, this is a great deal relative to buying the physical game. Game makes fantastic use of its license. Each scenario matches a book, and if you're familiar with the book you'll recognize the major elements in the scenario. As a fan of the books, I love this. Gameplay is like a multiplayer puzzle; one that changes each time due to the cards you draw each game. As mentioned, this isn't a deck builder. You get a starting hand and maybe 1-2 players will draw another card or two. But for the most part you'll play the initial hand and that's it. Since there are some cards that are better than others, this can be annoying when you are unlucky. Overall I like the game as a Dresden fan. But as a long time gamer, without the theme this wouldn't be worth another look in my group. Even with the theme, the only people interested in playing are Dresden fans. Roger the Alien Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2017 183 29 28 Germany #17 Roger the Alien, Jan 9, 2018 My impression I usually like this kind of games. I like coops, card games, board games, strategy games and much more. Well, I had no clue what the Dresden Files are beside the fact that a city here in germany is called Dresden. Yesterday I installed the game and I played about 20 games along the first 5 books as I didnt purchase any additional content. I can see that this game is fun for some people and I have to admit that if I wouldnt have had fun at all, I wouldve stopped right away. As of today there is no more motivation left to continue playing. 8 euro was already an investment and I cant see me buying additional content. There are 4 card types for each scenario and beside the enemies, the other cards always have the same art. Some cards are linked and affect others if solved but there is no real story told, you just see the names on the cards. Some scenarios have one more obstacle card others one more enemy and of course the values on the cards differ. I do not want to say that each scenario exactly feels the same way but I will usually always try to remove the yellow crads at first which symbolize penalties (German was pre-set as language in the settings, I usually play all games in english but I didnt change that yesterday. Sorry if I dont get the correct expressions for some card types). You will also try to get the purple cards really fast as they give some benefits. If I play the first scenario/book, it always consists of the same cards, this also applies for the other books. Only the order of the cards will be different. It would be much more interesting if some key cards would be involved and other cards would be chosen out of a card pool for the scenario to make it more special. On the other hand there are characters which also have 4 card types to overcome enemies, solve cases and so on. I have to admit that they are a little bit unique in some way and dependent on the book you will choose a character which is better suited to face enemies or solve cases. You will just draw approx. half of your deck for each book regarding each character and thats it. Sometimes a purple card will let you draw another card or 2 of them and after all cards were distributed there are no more random elements. You will just roll sometimes some fate dice to determine the range/cost/impact of your actions. In my opinion a lot of stuff is straightforward done to finish a book. The showdown on the other hand is a luck fest and you will just roll dice. For me the 5 base characters are sufficient and I wont spend more money to get more books or characters. There is a card database in the game and I had a look at the remaining cards. I cant deny that each character has his own deck, minor and major ability but they are not special enough for me to invest more money. Some special abilities of cards are just the equivalent of other cards and the only difference between them is that they affect green cards instead of red cards or the beginning of a card row instead of the end for example. My intention isnt to bash this game, this are just my feelings. I am a fan of the books, and I loved the short-lived series, so maybe that's it. I've been playing over and over again on "easy" and I always lose. There just aren't enough cards to burn for fate to finish anything. That, and there appears to be too much luck involved. That could add to replay ability, but 9 out of 10 dice rolls go against me, so it's frustrating. islesfan Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2012 319 3 18 Male Teacher Nevada #20 islesfan, Jan 10, 2018 Seriously about to delete this stupid game. After reaching 0-40 on "easy" I've come to realize that the game is simply unwinnable. Very frustrating. What is the point of the Showdown? I spend my remaining Fate points (the ones I got for discarding cards late in the game because there are never enough Fate points to actually use any damn cards), to get a result of zero on every dice roll. In 40 games, I've removed two cards total in the Showdown, EVER. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
