VEmpire - The Kings of Darkness is a vampire themed digital deck-building game, inspired by one of history's most influential royal dynasties - the house of Habsburg. Imagine: The resurgence of the Habsburg rulers as terrific vampires! It not only offers amazing art and a strong atmosphere but also a truly unique game-design with fresh mechanics that have been tested and balanced over the last 4 years! We believe that a game created with dedication and passion has the power to bring back some 'fire' into the big store. We are extremely grateful for all the love of our followers and players, without them we would not have made it that far. VEmpire is an honest & complete product, 100% Pay2Win free! There are no micro-transactions or payments within the game & there never will be! The player can choose to play against a serious AI, invite a friend for a casual game, or play a match against a server-selected opponent. If you have no internet-connection - you can still play AI games! You can Save & Load AI-games whenever you want - to get yourself ready for duels against others! OVERVIEW VEmpire is a turn-based card game about building an empire that is stronger than your opponent’s! To win: Knock down the empire-points of your opponent to zero before he does! VEmpire is a deck-building game like Dominion, Ascension or Star-Realms, just to name some popular games of this genre. VEmpire includes more than 100 unique cards with amazing artwork in four factions! All cards (vampires, locations, artifacts & spells) are drawn based on real historical characters, famous ancient buildings and gory battles! GAMEPLAY -SELECT YOUR KING Decide the king & faction you want to battle with. Depending on this choice you get your start-deck and your private-deck in the Market-Place to acquire cards from. -DESTROY YOUR OPPONENT It is the goal of the game to destroy the Empire of your opponent. Look out for Attack-Cards to build up your dark army, but do not forget to protect & strengthen your own Empire of blood! -COLLECT GROUPS You collect and play Groups, the most powerful entities in the game, which are designed after its historical examples (e.g. Pairs like ‘Sisi’ & ‘Franz Joseph’). They count twice if they are completed in your Empire! -HOLD CARDS Location-Cards not only provide you with permanent guldens every turn but also with 'hands', which means holding-ability, this gives you more strategic flexibility and control! -PLAY POWER-CARDS Play Power-Cards for fast and surprising play! Depending on your chosen king & faction there are different types of Power-Cards available for you at the Market-Place. -ACQUIRE OR ATTACK, ACQUIRE OR EMPIRE Attack-Cards can be played for acquiring new cards or they can… you guess right: ATTACK! Empire-Cards can be played for acquiring new cards or they can be played into your Empire to increase your empire-points. -PLAY SPELLS Use offensive or defensive Spell-Cards, depending on your strategy and all for one goal: win the battle! The history of the Hapsburg dynasty is the inspiration for our extraordinary theme. Our artists did an amazing job in turning mighty rulers into terrific vampires. Our cards are subtle interpretations of historical characters, places and events. We love to look at VEmpire as an atmospheric blend of game-mechanics, artwork, story and music. Hopefully you will enjoy this experience as much as we do! It’s not quite Ascension, but then what is - It has a tutorial, single player with 3 AI levels and 3 starting health (empire) settings, good options. It has MP but I haven’t been there yet - The tutorial is a bit weird though. Full marks for going through everything, but some of it is nonsensical and it lacks a bit of clarity in explaining concepts and UI. Having said that, if you play deckbulders, one game later (and maybe a mini revisit to the tutorial now that you have some basic concept of the terminology etc) you are fine. (I thought a couple of mechanics were missing, but just needed to revisit tutorial) - Nice mechanics of player only cards and shared cards to buy in the trade row. - But weirdly some of the trade piles ran out during both my games - felt like options became limited and we both still had lots of life left (empire points) - Also both games felt a little odd on balance, Star Realms has a growth where attack really ramps up once your factions get going, it’s early days but this seemed a bit like that but not as nicely balanced. All in all very happy with purchase, very nicely themed and presented. Will have to see if balance and gameplay is as compelling as the classics on iOS over longer period (feedback may be slightly coloured by just starting to beta test Evolution on iOS , which, while not a deck builder is just so freaking amazingly awesome as an app and game, my standards bar is high today ) Chiller ONE Well-Known Member Sep 20, 2008 1,615 29 48 Nurse Sweden #5 Chiller ONE, Dec 7, 2017 Oh this looks very interesting, cool theme for sure. Very polished and a lot of love put into this to echo some of the previous comments. Main differentiating point in my humble opinion is in the rhythm. Where games like Ascension and Star Realms play at a faster pace for card selection and putting them into play, the structure of the cards marketplace in VEmpire (race-based + common) does make this a little bit slower overall. There's also less range of price per cards in the marketplace (ranging from 5 to 10 - 10 for locations, 6 and above for race-based cards and 5 to 6 for common cards) and overall lesser volume of cards, making the deck-building component slightly more strategic but somehow also less prone to full-out cards combination winning strategies in the later stage of a game. I have found that "empiring" your mercenary as early as possible in the game to be an important component of a winning strategy in order to more likely draw race-based + common cards as much as possible each turn. All-in-all, really a great game. For me personally, would love to see a bit more variety in race-based and common cards in the future to speed-up the overall game rhythm and add variety to strategies. From a UI stand point, a drag and drop with finger would also help speed-up the rhythm as currently a lot is still point and click-based. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #14 skoptic, Dec 8, 2017 Last edited: Dec 8, 2017 Yes I agree with all this! The drag and drop would be nice ( I keep trying to do it from using other games so much), but I’m more concerned by the other elements you mention. I’ve not played a huge amount, so thes thoughts may evolve, but the gameplay seems less compelling and more like a war of attrition. I understand what you’re saying about the limited cards meaning less prone for a full out card combo, but all my games have had multiple cards piles empty, not enough resources to buy high cards, and empire points rising and rising with little or no attack going on (on both sides). At this point the turns are a bit boring until you get to an attack war of attrition with 2 or 3 value attack cards (maybe modified by a purchase or 2) with little variation in attack modification or card combo. I’ll try to post recent screenshot, I started game and easy AI with 10 empire points. We spent 20 rounds just upping empire points with no attacks at all until we are both on approx 40, 4 of the 7 piles ran out, the location pile cost was too high for most rounds, so we have just been maxing health and then only had a few options to buy..... seemed weird, but maybe I’m playing it wrong! This has happened multiple times, @wlueger are the piles supposed to run out? Is that part of the gameplay? Do any of the faction groups bring attack bonuses or it it always empire bonuses? skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #15 skoptic, Dec 8, 2017 hrenucci New Member Jun 28, 2017 4 0 0 #16 hrenucci, Dec 8, 2017 Totally! Ive also experienced empty piles more than once so I do believe its meant to be. This brings a good point of perhaps lack of sufficient bonuses among the cards (faction and common) to elevate the play to more interesting and unexpected turn of events. Faction groups do provide bonuses but so far ive mainly experienced added bonus for attack cards once the groups completed, though still limited. In order to quickly access higher priced cards it is really a balancing act of quickly getting faction cards to replace mercenary, empire faction cards that can complete groups and provide some bonuses to attack cards and so on. all cards have a spend ability while not all provide empire bonus point to raise your health points so I always try to get rid of mercenary as quickly as possible. FunkDoctaSteve Member May 23, 2014 11 0 1 #17 FunkDoctaSteve, Dec 8, 2017 I have to ask, did you purposely make the app icon look like ozzy osbourne? Lol wlueger Active Member Jan 9, 2015 32 0 0 #18 wlueger, Dec 8, 2017 VEmpire Strategy! @scoptic Yes it is fine to empty your private decks at the marketplace! (the empty attack-stack gives you +1 for every attack!) But it is not mandatory. Choose your tactics! Play vs the strongest AI, he will force you to attack much earlier! You can win fast or slow it depends on a lot of things, the strength of your opponent, but also your taste! The "best" strategy depends on the chosen faction, their attack cards, their powercards, and the spell-cards that come in different combinations depending on the 2 factions! And go for locations, (You can banish and revive them or with Power-Take cards!) then the fun begins! If you have one - clone it if you can! The challenge for us was to keep the game balanced but exciting with high replay value at the same time! And beside the random factor, you can definitely choose a strategy because you have private cards in the marketplace, which in other deckbuilders you mostly can not really! If you have extremely strong card-combos it is likely that the game is not very balanced! Anyway you can have a lot of those in VEmpire though,e.g. look for a strategy with Power-Attack cards! But mostly the best strategies are all based on location cards because of the holding possibility, combined with a lot of other possibilities! Hopefully you can find a good player online, you can learn a lot from them, there are extremely good players, which even I for myself can not beat anymore! Please join us in the forums on steam or reddit for strategic discussions also! cheers! wlueger Active Member Jan 9, 2015 32 0 0 #19 wlueger, Dec 8, 2017 Ozzy & Mercenaries... @FunkDoctaSteve Hehe, yes, we've to ask valentin, our genius artist, but obviously ozzy is mixed into this art, it is one of our very best card-art, very detailed - i love it... @hrenucci Mercenaries: Yes Mercenaries are a key-point in the game, and you are on a good way. Getting rid of them is key. But it is also nice that you can recruit one if you need one for a certain card, a draw-spell(or location) card would be a great example!
