Also just saw the Android version, which is “unreleased” in preview, is F2P and has IAPs all the way to $75. That concerns me even if this version is paid since it does have IAPs. Evil_Jokke New Member Nov 29, 2017 2 0 0 #6 Evil_Jokke, Nov 29, 2017 Hey everyone! I actually had a chance to work on this game so if you have questions regarding it, please shoot away. To comment on IAP's, RootWorld's progression is not tied to purchases in any way on the iOS platform. You don't have to pay anything to enjoy everything the game has to offer (aside from purchasing it, of course!). This game was developed by two really talented programmers and they've put a lot of effort into making it what is. I definitely recommend checking it out. Ocmo has an increase your momentum dynamic (shortening your rope), which this lacks. Ocmo also feels generally... crisper? Im not sure if Im missing something, but no matter what I do on some of these levels, Im failing I secure perfect scores. Even when theres nothing visible left, and the level appears to be one screen. Idk. Not sold yet, tbh. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #12 Quoad, Nov 30, 2017 Have just found the IAP screen. (It isn’t prominent. Or at all in your face). Levels centre on capturing flies and... something else (cages?) not clearly explained so far. Flies (or the cages, not sure) can be exchanged for skills gains (permanent, I assume - toughness, bounciness, reach, or a very expensive hat) or power ups (one level, I assume). Income wrt flies is capped by the level (no endless grinding possible - you can only get a set amount from each level). You can buy more flies for irl money. Cash iaps range from £0.99 for 700 (which currently would be enough for me to upgrade everything multiple times - I assume cost scales) to £75 for, uh, 80808. Edit: yes. Cost scales with upgrades / “gear.” Evil_Jokke New Member Nov 29, 2017 2 0 0 #13 Evil_Jokke, Dec 1, 2017 Differences Between Android and iOS I wanted to clarify some of the differences between the iOS and Android versions with regards to RootWorld. The progression of the game on Android is not tied into IAP's directly. RootWorld on Android is free to download, but places a paywall after the first world. Paying a bit to open up more of those flurry creatures allows you to open up the rest of the levels, after which further purchases are not needed. When you purchase RootWorld for the iOS there's no need to make further purchases to fully enjoy the game. You can (for the time being), but there's no necessity to do so. I think I paid 3,99 to open up the game completely on Android (removes adds as well) when I was doing testing and some graphics work for the game. I could have gotten a free version of it, of course, but I figured 4 euros wasn't going to break my bank and I've always preferred purchasing games rather than going through the Free-To-Play shenanigans. Also, I felt like supporting Kiuas Games with the purchase (yeah, 4 isn't keeping anyone afloat, but it's the thought that counts. Right?). I completely understand why people are suspicious about any IAP practices on mobile games. It's a bad trend in my opinion, but something that is rooted strongly into the mobile gaming economy. It is pretty useless to release premium games on Android, because the trends have cannibalized the value of games into oblivion, and free-to-play happens to be a standard expectation with Android users today. If you guys are against such practices, the you should vote with your wallets and set a trend for paying for games. Kiuas Games is thinking about the possibility of releasing RootWorld as a premium title for Android, but it takes time make big changes in the monetization system. Would you prefer to have the IAP's removed completely? Leave a comment, because I'm sure the developers will be reading this thread. The choice to make RootWorld a premium game on the iOS was easier, because people are more used to paying for their products up front on that platform (although that is also changing). You should check RootWorld's menu, where the game store is located. It's obvious the game isn't trying to cheat money from you. The emphasis was to create a fun game and the economy came more as an afterthought. From a business perspective that's not a good thing, but from a gaming perspective it's perfect. There's no tracking of users, you don't need an online connection to play the game, and there's no hassling of the user with messages. RootWorld is a very approachable and ultimately a challenging game with a lot of content to offer. There's even an asynchronous multiplayer feature included, which I'm pretty sure most people haven't noticed. Personally, I could think worse ways of spending a few euros. If you have more question, throw them at me. I'll check up once in a while and try to answer to the best of my ability.
