DarthMarenghi Member Nov 15, 2017 8 0 0 #9 DarthMarenghi, Nov 15, 2017 Run in background? First off, the browser game is fantastic, and I'm delighted to see an official port of it. (There were several lousy clones put out ahead of this, and other people profiting off this original idea without the originators getting credit and cash really annoys me.) That said, one major problem with the iOS version is that it does not seem to run if the app is not active. Given that the browser game can run in a background window, and that the game as some stretches that do not require any user input, running in the background (or, more accurately, advancing progress when the app is restarted) seems like a necessary feature. (There is also an annoying aesthetic issue -- when the paperclip counter value gets large enough, it wraps on the screen, which looks very strange.) Might we see updates in the future that look at these issues? icoker Well-Known Member Mar 26, 2013 652 10 18 #10 icoker, Nov 15, 2017 I wonder if Background App Refresh has anything to do with that. Could you see if you have it turned on in the 'General' in settings? DarthMarenghi Member Nov 15, 2017 8 0 0 #11 DarthMarenghi, Nov 15, 2017 It's turned on, although the app does not appear in the list. That features should also only be for pulling data from a network, and not simply running in the background. (Of course, the app doesn't actually need to run while it isn't foregrounded, it just needs to update itself based on the passage of time when it re-launches.) Definitely addicting, but Im not leaving my phone on forever... Frank Lantz Member Nov 14, 2017 12 0 0 #14 Frank Lantz, Nov 15, 2017 Thanks for the feedback everyone. The big Paperclips number is definitely intended to wrap like that. As for running in the background, it's a very interesting question. The game isn't really intended to work that way. It's not as much of a traditional idler, more of a sim with some idle features. It's intended to be an experience where there's almost always something to actively tweak, tune, choose, or adjust. Sometimes there are substantial pauses between player actions, but even then the player is meant to be watching, analyzing, and planning. Because the game was intentionally designed and balanced to be played this way there are a bunch of gameplay things that would feel pretty bad if it was always on. You might play for 15 minutes in the morning, then come back that evening and find one or more resources that are now so plentiful they are basically no longer meaningful for the rest of the game. However, it does *seem* like it should be always on and some people do play it that way, so it's something we should definitely consider going forward. I wouldn't totally rule it out. At the very least, we should probably make it so the phone doesn't time out while the app is running, so if you want/need to set it down to run on it's own for a while you could do that.
