Never played the board game Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #9 Avaniar, Sep 15, 2017 Let me just say this... that tutorial... WOW I am an avid boardgamer but I still had not tried Through the Ages, because I mainly play solo boardgames or coop (on account of not having that many gamers around... though my wife is now starting to play deckbuilders and light-medium boardgames, not something as heavy as this), but I do have and play Nations (which is a "lighter" TtA that is soloable). TtA is very very good, and the tutorial does indeed stand out because of its humourour tones. But the rulebooks from Vlaada already stand out because of that (another app like that is Galaxy Trucker). even if the price is high (11 euros), it is more than justifiable because the boardgame sets you back about 45 and you need people to play it. So, for me it is awesome. I have not delved a whole lot into the game (just the tutorial and checked the challenges) but it does seem meaty, even if it is just 150 mgbs. currymutton Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2008 4,430 1 0 #10 currymutton, Sep 15, 2017 Statement: in case, again, someone complains, I encounter problem with signing in online game, I have sent the details to the developer. I lost... by 6 miserable points... i lost 182 to 176! And worse of all, i was behind during most of the game, but my bet in colonies paid off with james cook and a good event and i actually finished yhe game winning but then you resolve the last 4 events and by the 3rd i was winning 176 to 172 but the last event gave the ai 10 pts. Aaaargh soooo tense. Same thing with Twilight Struggle and Pathfinder. So glad it's on Ipad. Almost all of my games on it are board and card games. baelnor Well-Known Member Aug 28, 2012 95 0 0 #15 baelnor, Sep 16, 2017 Amazing port, best tutorial ever. Especially the 5 diamonds gag Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #16 Avaniar, Sep 16, 2017 I guesstimate... I would say my first playthrough was about 1hour to 1:30 because it was my bus trip home. However, i have played two more games which i have won (easily lol) and they have both been around 1hour each, with only 1 ai. The first game probably took a bit longer because i was still learning the ropes, and also because i used the undo button two turns, so it took a bit longer. However, i am totally hooked into the game, playing two games back to back vs the ai lol And it is soooo cool, i won both by +- the same margin but i used two totally different strategies. First game i went heavy on military and colonies, which paid off because of the cards coming out. Second game i depleted my military to 0 for like 80% of the game and only worried about it on the second to last turn because of a war (which i did not win but managed to mitigate). But i went heavy for wonders (hey i almost build 7... but that would take too long... pun intended). Well worth the 11euros i paid hehe currymutton Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2008 4,430 1 0 #17 currymutton, Sep 16, 2017 Suggestion: If you wish to how good the AI is, head over to BGG's IOS Board Game blog and find the (whining) posts regarding the beta testers. Very frustrating. The tutorial is cute but not very helpful. It's too bad as this game looks like it has potential. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #19 skoptic, Sep 16, 2017 Wonderful game as expected from Czech edition! I have played others from Czech but not this one - the tutorial was thorough and funny, but I still watched an intro vid on YT to get some context. Played 2, won 1 - great game really great balance and mechanics. The app is really nice too, multiple ways to perform tasks that are great UX. Looking forward to a few more solo games before diving into multiplayer Avaniar Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2016 246 1 18 #20 Avaniar, Sep 16, 2017 The war is winnable Don't get frustrated. The war is winnable. I don't remember how you do it, but don't forget you can destroy something for 1action (thus getting back 1 worker). The tutorial is very funny and it is very helpful if you don't know how to play. It won't tellnyou strategies of play, only the rules.
