I'd prefer a pull and aim mechanic over this. sobriquet Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jul 30, 2015 1,216 1 38 #5 sobriquet, Jul 19, 2017 The issue I had with the controls is that you have to aim and shoot within the time the energy buildings up for your shot. Wait too long and that energy goes away and you don't shoot. MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,459 271 83 #6 MetaGonzo, Jul 19, 2017 This basically. I wanted to give it a good shot but I just can't work with the controls. AggressiveCombustion Member Jul 20, 2017 7 0 0 #10 AggressiveCombustion, Jul 20, 2017 Hi, metalcasket. Developer here. We actually experimented with a pull to aim mechanic early in development, along with a more simplistic "fling to launch"; unfortunately, our testers didn't seem to like them as much as our current system. That said, we would be more than happy to add options for different control schemes if it's something you all are interested in? AggressiveCombustion Member Jul 20, 2017 7 0 0 #11 AggressiveCombustion, Jul 20, 2017 Hi Gluskap. Could you elaborate please on what's going on with the aspect ratio/resolution? If there's an issue with the game not looking as it's intended to we'd like to correct it. AggressiveCombustion Member Jul 20, 2017 7 0 0 #12 AggressiveCombustion, Jul 20, 2017 Hi, Sobriquet. Sorry the controls didn't click really click with you. We initially didn't have the "time out" mechanic, but included it both as a way of smoothly allowing the player to "cancel" their launch, and to add more tension to timing each jump. sobriquet Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jul 30, 2015 1,216 1 38 #13 sobriquet, Jul 20, 2017 I understand what you're say, however I think a better way to cancel the launch is to simply bring you finger back to the "zero" position. The timeout is just frustrating and doesn't really add anything to the game other than that frustration. I also don't think difficult controlls is a good way to make a game harder. Gluskap Well-Known Member Sep 12, 2015 236 1 16 #14 Gluskap, Jul 21, 2017 Sure. Just look at the iPad screenshots of your game. Two black bars saying hi. AggressiveCombustion Member Jul 20, 2017 7 0 0 #15 AggressiveCombustion, Jul 21, 2017 As you pointed out, the game does not change resolution to better fit aspect ratios that aren't 16:9. We could squash and stretch the image to fit, or crop/widen the screen, but that wasn't a result that we were satisfied with. Project MALLOW was designed to be playable across a range of monitors and devices, and it was important to us that we display the entirety of the level at all times. This was a choice we made during development after much discussion, and it's one we stand by. retrogamOR Well-Known Member Aug 4, 2013 167 0 0 #16 retrogamOR, Jul 21, 2017 I like this personally. AggressiveCombustion Member Jul 20, 2017 7 0 0 #19 AggressiveCombustion, Jul 24, 2017 We think so! But obviously, we're biased. Project MALLOW is more of a puzzle-platformer, where the puzzle involves thinking about how you can safely get your MALLOW to the room's exit, often in the least amount of time or jumps possible. It's a free download, so if it sounds like something you'd enjoy, please check it out! If you do, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave a review as well, and let us know what you like/don't like about it. Thanks! Developers who use Gamemaker really need to know what the aspect ratio and the resolution are instead of saying "yeaaah my engine doesn't scale as nicely as I would like sooooo deal with it".
