So, a few weeks ago I decided to make my first holiday game. To start if you haven't created a holiday game, do it! As I was creating, I found it removed some major game development difficulties. The theme of the game is 100% solidified, clear, and unchanging. You have a definitive completion deadline that you can't put off. The game has some built in national marketing and buzz. Number 3 was an assumption on my part going in. I thought that everyone would be going into the holiday, just eating up everything Easter related. I thought Apple would have a special Easter section for Easter games. SO far I've been very wrong about that. While I was creating the game, I started looking at my competition on the App Store, and almost started getting cocky. Believing that my art, design, and gameplay was far superior. To my dismay now that the game is done, it looks slightly above average. Also, as the holiday gets closer and the quality seems to get better. The name of the game is, "Eggtastic Easter Egg Hunt" if you can't tell I'm trying to get some App Store keyword love. What I've found though is many popular games, put an egg or a bunny update in there game for Easter, and they basically outrank everything. It's smart, but frustrating.
