The game allow players to portray important engagements throughout WWI history. The battles focus on the historical deployment of forces and important terrain features of trench fighting in scale with the game system. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from battle to battle. For some scenarios, a few infantry units may represent an entire wing of a larger battle, while in other scenarios a unit may represent just a few brave soldiers going over the top. The Command card system drives movement, creates a “fog of war” and presents players with many interesting opportunities; while the battle dice resolve combat quickly and efficiently. The Combat cards add an element of suspense and will challenge players to coordinate their use in a timely manner. Overall, the battlefield tactics players will need to execute to gain victory conform remarkably well to the strengths and limitations of the various types of WWI units, their weapons, battlefield terrain, and written history. Key Features - 15 scenarios set during the most infamous battles on the western front - Over 50 unique combat and command cards to simulate tactical and strategic choices - Make strategic choices faithful to the era with machine guns, trenches, riflemen and bombers - Lay waste to the World War 1 era battlefield with artillery strikes - Play as German, British or Canadian combatants Scenarios - Commands and Colours - Opening Action 1 - Commands and Colours - Opening Action 2 - Loos (2nd Division Diversionary Attack) - 25 September 1915 - Loos (Hohenzollern Redoubt) - 25 September 1915 - Loos (German Counter-Attack) - 27 September 1915 - Loos (Fight for The Trenches) - 29 September To 3 October 1915 - Loos (Renewed British Offensive) - 13-14 October 1915 - Somme (Hawthorn Ridge Mine Explosion) - 1 July 1916 - Somme (Mash Valley & La Boisselle ) - 1 July 1916 - Somme (Sausage Valley & La Boisselle) - 1 July 1916 - Somme (Mametz) - 1 July 1916 - Somme (Mametz Wood) - 7-10 July 1916 - Vimy Ridge (1st & 2nd Canadian Infantry Divisions) - 9 April 1917 - Vimy Ridge (Hill 145) - 9-10 April 1917 - Vimy Ridge (The Pimple) - 12 April 1917 - Vimy Ridge (Bois-En-Hache) - 12 April 1917 Note: We recommend playing on an iPhone 5S, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air, iPad Pro or newer device. I've held off on this developers games as of late, but this game might have something going for it. I'm definitely interested! Any info much appreciated ttcool Well-Known Member Jul 2, 2016 92 0 0 #3 ttcool, Mar 25, 2017 Hesitant at first because of previous Hex games I bought before, but saw the reviews on the board game which had great reviews and topic WW1, I couldn't resist. This game have tons of potentials and there are annoying bugs which cards like counteract doesn't work which is bummer because it just skips you turn! Please fix! First 2 scenarios are for training with another 16 different scenarios that are all unlocked so you can jump around if you like. It does take awhile to play each scenarios, I only played 2 which took about over an hour... It plays a lot like Heros of Normandie which is much more polish in my opinion. The game unquiness are the cards and especially command cards can turn a bad situation into a winning position used at the right time. I really like the different units strength and terrain mods make a huge advantage or disadvantage just depends on the situation. It definitely fun. currymutton Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2008 4,430 1 0 #4 currymutton, Mar 25, 2017 Given this is Hex War, I would give it a wait. More comments and reviews are welcomed. Since English is not my native language, I need some time to think how to write it down and my review is rather short and simple. The boardgame is very high rated. This game is an exact digital copie of the boardgame. I like these kind of boardgames and the rather slow pace of the turnbased game. Played a few hours and you need a bit time to fully understand the rules. I recommend to watch a youtube movie of someone explaining the rules of the boardgame. I played a bit and the game has a high boardgame feeling. It is a slow game but it has a great WWI feeling. The game represent very good the frustrating trench war of WWI (attack, gain land and retrait). I am very interested in WWI and I live in the 'Polders' where WWI is even today very must alive. But WWI is not that popular in games and it was a slow frustrating war. So I guess this game is not for everyone. I haven' t seen any bugs yet. The game would be better if it had the UI and smooth graphics of 'heroes of Normandie' but nevertheless I gave it 5 stars because on Toucharcade fora and many other review sites most games that are very good but could be better are rated 5 stars. currymutton Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2008 4,430 1 0 #9 currymutton, Mar 28, 2017 Thank you for taking time and write the review. eugenemcardle Well-Known Member May 21, 2013 357 9 18 Retired, Math/Science Teacher, Air Force Electron Redcliffe Queensland Australia #10 eugenemcardle, Mar 28, 2017 This game is not the usual Hexwar fodder. It's a lot more complex, has cards that can be played, and a very steep learning curve, at least for me. The graphics are far better with zoom to 3D. Would have liked a tutorial along side the introductory scenarios. Well worth the price and worth the plunge . Making a hard sell from the dev even harder sell. Guess I'll put this on the list and move on. Since the tutorial/intro is just there, I don't find it helpful at all. Still confused over what is happening. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
