Does this mean that devs will write apps that can handle better graphics and a faster processor that the 3GS offers while those of us with steam powered 3G non S will have slow running stuttery apps?

Another worry is the new Open GL (they did announce that right?) in the 3GS. I really hope we don't start seeing support getting dropped for older devices not because of hardboard features (Bluetooth, mike) but simply because the device can't handle it.

It will if devs are morons and want to appeal to a small number of the whole demographic. Likely that will just be wasted power until the rest of us get up to that level.

Ideally a game would simply scale to whatever device it's running on, like computer games do. The devices are basically small Macs with touchscreens, so nothing new there. ;)

I am going to upgrade to this and if it's double the speed as they claim then we'll see either something that either surpass the pre or rival it considerably.

Yeah that's true... even truer with the $99 3G. That's going to get more people on the iPhone bandwagon, even if it won't be with the latest device.
