Hi, everyone. I'm Somi, an indie game developer based in South Korea who developed Replica and Legal Dungeon. I'm excited to announce that my game, The Wake: Mourning Father, Mourning Mother is coming to the App Store and Google Play on 2nd April. The Wake is a game that discovers past emotions and wounds through the process of reading and deciphering the journal which is encoded with a simple substitution cipher. I’d be deeply grateful if you would take a look at the game. Any question is very welcome. Best regards, Somi ** Indie Arena Booth for Gamescom 2020 Best Story Game Award ** BIC 2020 Excellence In Narrative Award ** Fun & Serious Game Festival 2020 Best Serious Game Award Nominee The Wake: Mourning Father, Mourning Mother is the last of game developer Somi’s “Guilt Trilogy,” consisting of Replica and Legal Dungeon. [Perhaps it means my life simply boils down to this: “Everything I say is a lie.”] The Wake is a record of past wounds opened at a three-day funeral — a record of the roots of guilt, and the memories and emotions that chain together three generations of a family. The journal is encoded with a simple substitution cipher that the player must break in order to reveal the writer’s psyche and discover the contradictions that define him. Explore a generational curse that has swallowed a man and his life. App Store Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-wake/id1546739064
Looks interesting and deep, but forgive my ignorance - what is the actual gameplay like or gameplay loop?
Mmmm, I understand you don't want to reveal too much, but I'm sold. I will pick it up on 2nd April. Good luck with the launch.
As a South Korean, myself, the photos really struck a nostalgic nerve. As the awards state, this game makes great use of narrative. I’m expecting an emotional story that will have players sifting through unforgettable memories and feeling spiritually rewarded by the end. I’m definitely interested!!
I hope my game can meet your expectation. Most of players told me their own childhood and memories of relationships with their parents even though my game and the story in it are very private and personal. I’m sure that you can get some consolation from playing the game.
I’m sure it will! I am also a caregiver for my parents and have definitely been thinking about the issues brought up in your game. Scariest part of your game is truth. Writing that, I realize the sacrifice you made in sharing such personal emotions with us and I am truly grateful. Thank you.
