How is the f2p/grind? Artfoundry Well-Known Member May 11, 2009 2,519 2 38 COO and Creative Director at LCD Dreams, Inc. Bay area, CA #3 Artfoundry, Jan 5, 2017 Really nicely done. Graphics, sound, gameplay are all top notch. Nothing really new that I've seen so far (played the first three campaign scenarios), but lots of the standard stuff to do (tower upgrades, hero equipment upgrades, campaign with character dialog and map, chests to open, etc). The premium currency seems focused on consumable power ups, the best chest to open, and speeding up recharging of a special magic/spell tower. So nothing that will limit gameplay. Of course, no idea what the ramp up in difficulty is like for later scenarios. It's free, so certainly worth checking out. GiHubb Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Apr 27, 2010 1,049 39 48 CEO #8 GiHubb, Jan 7, 2017 Yet another Kingdom Rush clone, and an inferior one as usual. Nothing to get excited about. rittchard Well-Known Member Nov 11, 2011 89 1 8 #9 rittchard, Jan 7, 2017 Maybe I've just been in a TD mood, but I think this is a bit harsh. I'm enjoying this game a lot. Sure it has a lot of cloned elements, but there's something fresh about it as well. If you only play the first couple of chapters you might not get a good feel for it, but the game starts to ramp up significantly in Chapter 3 and 4 once you have a more complete set of upgrades and the first 2 heroes. Looking forward to making my way to the third hero, the difficulty is definitely creeping up quickly. graison Member Dec 14, 2011 23 0 1 Saskatoon, Canada #10 graison, Jan 9, 2017 If you want a kingdom rush clone that's kind of grindy with a bunch of different currencies then this should be right up your alley. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #11 orangecan, Jan 10, 2017 Yeah I'm quite enjoying it as well, it's not perfect but the feeemium elements aren't overwhelming at all (yet). The only thing I can't work out is how to change the difficulty levels from easy to anything else - I wondered if you got more loot by replaying levels at a higher difficulty...... Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #12 Nullzone, Jan 10, 2017 I enjoyed this until the start of chapter 3, where I ran into a hard paywall - unless I am missing something: I ran out of Gold to upgrade my towers, and could not find a way to earn more by replaying earlier stages. The only way that might have worked still is by the free chests, but those only gave a few hundred Gold - and not even all the time. As other people apparently are past Chapter 3/4 already, how did Gold work out for you? orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #13 orangecan, Jan 10, 2017 Last edited: Jan 10, 2017 I'm on the last level of chapter 3 and haven't run into any difficulties yet - money of otherwise - I've upgraded all my towers to level 2 so far and that's without replaying any levels or doing anything special, I've literally played a level then moved onto the next one and opened (I think) 4 chests. I think I've 3 starred all but 2 levels and while I'm not saying I will never hit a paywall but at the end of chapter 3 if anything I've found it to be a little too easy. Edit: I've just got to world 4 and it's told me it's locked until I upgrade my hero which is slightly annoying as I do now need to replay levels to get stuff but it seems to be randomly dropped so no Idea how long I'll actually have to play to upgrade him.... Conan Well-Known Member Jun 13, 2009 71 0 0 #14 Conan, Jan 10, 2017 Yet another tower defense. Aren't you guys tired about this? Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #15 Nullzone, Jan 10, 2017 That might explain it. Upgrading towers to level 2 still worked fine for me too. I was working on upgrading the first ones to level 3 when I ran out of Gold. And I opened a few chests for 1000 Gold each, since I didn't know that Gold would come in short supply later. But not spending on the chests would only have delayed the problem, I think. That's annoying indeed. I dare say that's at least a soft paywall, maybe even a hard one depending on how many resources you need for the upgrades. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #16 orangecan, Jan 10, 2017 Yeah given I've just replayed 4 levels without even a sniff of what I need to upgrade my hero and the only other option is to open chests to try and get it I can't see myself putting a great deal more time into it. rittchard Well-Known Member Nov 11, 2011 89 1 8 #17 rittchard, Jan 10, 2017 Last edited: Jan 10, 2017 Yup, I also hit a "gold wall" at the end of Chapter 5 (map #20). Note that I did purchase the starter package early on. I also did not realize gold would become such a limiting factor. They really need to make it a bit more accessible, perhaps make some of the excess stuff you get sellable? If you wait long enough (every 2 days), the free Hero Chest will get you some extra gold, but other than that it takes real money. I'm going to try to get through lvl 20 using all my extras, hopefully that will get me the next hero and extend the game life a little longer. Update: I was able to 3-star lvl 20 on my second try, only needed a couple extra boosts plus a couple of the big lightning zaps. I have to say I do enjoy the challenge of this game, and I actually like that it forces you to "grind" a bit. I personally don't mind redoing old levels at fast speed to see how well I can optimize. I think overall the meta game might need some tweaking, but overall it's a good TD. RinoaHeartily Well-Known Member Dec 12, 2010 1,715 10 38 #18 RinoaHeartily, Jan 10, 2017 I am 2 levels on chap 3 which one is causing u trouble? Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #19 Nullzone, Jan 11, 2017 Not much of a problem with three-starring the stages, except for the the last one in chapter 3 (still need to figure that one out). Problem #1 is that Gold is in really short supply past the initial large drops. Replaying stages yields almost nothing, 50 here 100 there. Problem #2 ,like Orangecan mentioned, is that getting upgrade materials turns very grindy very fast. I couldn't sleep yesterday and replayed at least 20 stages to get stuff for upgrading my towers (done, now I'm out of Gold) and upgrading Lance to level 2. For the latter, I "only" need 10 more of one material; but the drops are rarer than a 3-headed sparkling unicorn only got one drop of 4 in all the replays. I'll give it one more shot with the daily quests today. If that doesn't yield enough, I'm outta here. Shame, because the game itself is pretty solid. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #20 orangecan, Jan 11, 2017 I did the same thing last night just to try and get Lance to level 2 and I'm just bored now - all I need is some green stuff(?) but it's just not happening - played about 6 levels and you don't earn enough to make it worthwhile and there's no sign of me getting what I need so it's a goodbye from me for this one. Shame because if you remove the freemium elements it would be a pretty good TD game. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
