Arrow Spam is real-time, and I'd say that makes a pretty big difference. Yes, basically all you do is try to get the angle and force right to hit your enemy, but you also try to do it faster than your opponent. This means that especially the easier generated levels feel more like a reaction game than a slow paced thinking game. You can also block arrows midair if you're good and/or lucky. But Scorched Earth was definitely a major influence. I passed many an hour of my misspent youth with that.
