I feel like the developers spent more time building the RPGs events around maintaining ad and iap revenue then they did around actually improving the gameplay though. It's basically just a match 3 game where eventually the rpg elements will block your progression until you level up sufficiently. There's no more depth to this than your standard match 3 as you'll either have a good run of matches that sees you win, a bad run that will have you lose or a run against an opponent too powerful that will force you to wait for upgrades. The little summons and all there stats are pretty pointless really. All you can really do is just swarm the enemy with your matches, which is what you'd do in any match 3 anyways.. and visually it adds nothing because it's too busy on the battle screen. I guess that doesn't matter anyways because my eyes are focused on matching. I think this game would have benifitted from the players having a limited amount of moves with a cool down timer, and summons that had rock, paper, scissors quality. That way the player could say make 3 moves then watch the battle screen during a short cooldown and plan their next 3 moves based on what has been summoned. Something like that would have added strategic depth and a reason for summoner visuals.
