I think I'm gonna buy this! Anyhow have any impressions of this version or the original? Seems like no one here has played it. Btw, it's on a launch sale right now of $2.99 (at least in USA) to even though it's not showing here yet. Edit: Couldn't resist so bought! Adventure Bar story is an amazing game. I'll have impressions later. Btw side note but I LOVE how this dev knows to make sure app names fit under the icons. Both of their app store titles are really long yet they're all shortened to fit perfectly. A+ Hambo12 Well-Known Member Jul 23, 2012 1,943 28 48 on the internet #9 Hambo12, Nov 3, 2016 it's played in portrait mode which i really like it has fancy borders on the top and bottom and a lot of save slots. easy mode and normal. same sound effects as adventure bar story. nice sprite art work and music is good. it's like final fantasy tactics. take turns moving characters attacking, defending, skills, and you can evolve your characters to different classes and equip different stuff. there' is story mode and a free battle mode where you just fight with no story. you can save after every battle. oh there is also IAP for blue gems to buy better stuff like adventure bar story so it's not needed but nice to have better stuff. so far so good L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #10 L.Lawliet, Nov 3, 2016 I'm enjoying it. Seems to have a decent story with nice sprites. Critiques however are that the music gets repetitive and the controls are clunky. They offer touch and pad mode but neither feels just right. Pad mode is good but then you realize you still have to tap buttons (like attack / skills) so I found it bothersome. I settled with touch mode but it's hard to tap small blocks around the enemies when the view is stuck in one place. My main issue with the controls are that the game is held into position for single-handed play but unless you have long fingers, it's actually uncomfortable to only play with one hand since you have to reach around to tap precisely. These aren't to say the game is bad but things to be aware of. In any case, if you liked FF Tactics, you'll love this one. Plays 80% identically. soullife Member Oct 30, 2016 5 0 0 #11 soullife, Nov 3, 2016 Looks awesome One of the few reasons the FTP games of this genre never look this promising is cause they made the game with "wanting you to pay for the 4-5stars unit in mindset". Anyway, this game looks awesome and with those char design, gui, etc. Big fans of this genre my fav is fire emblem though. baldeagle86 Well-Known Member Dec 21, 2013 737 0 0 #12 baldeagle86, Nov 3, 2016 Oh man! L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #14 L.Lawliet, Nov 3, 2016 I'm starting to get the hang of it and it's pretty fun. It actually feels like a more casual FFT that I can play anytime because you can "free play" stages and they show the difficulty so you can just pick something you want to play in. The mechanics have a lot of depth but they aren't as deep as FFT so you don't have to worry about amassing tons of JP for tons of jobs (which is good and bad). In contrast, FFT is obviously the top tier SRPG but it's hard to casually play it as battles continually scale, battles are continually difficult, and battles generally are really long. I'm guessing these battles in this game can get long but with "free play" you can level up and play stuff you feel like playing. I also heard there is a NG+ so that's a nice incentive to get this game. stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,880 358 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #15 stubbieoz, Nov 3, 2016 That pretty much kills the game for me. The wonky controls (bad to have in any tactical rpg) and portrait only (my iPad Pro's most hated view). Otherwise it would have been an instant purchase. Yerti1 Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Aug 8, 2012 301 0 16 #16 Yerti1, Nov 3, 2016 I usually don't care for portrait only mode in any game, but it looks like this will be okay. It's about the only reason I struggle to play the dragon quest games on iOS, because I love the games themselves, but I want a landscape experience. I am buying this though, as SRPGs are one of my absolute favorites, and the portrait mode looks alright. Amenbrother Well-Known Member Jun 24, 2011 6,659 7 38 #17 Amenbrother, Nov 3, 2016 That sounds pretty good to me I might have to grab it. Yerti1 Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Aug 8, 2012 301 0 16 #18 Yerti1, Nov 4, 2016 Last edited: Nov 4, 2016 I've been enjoying the game so far. I'm only a few story battles in and had to go to free mode, as I got my ass kicked, so I needed to level up. It doesn't seem to be giving the correct amount of SP (skill points) for battles in free mode. It just said I earned 350 from a free battle and my total was only 271, combined with what I already had. I do like the ability level up, as you earn points as a team and distribute them to who you want. The map needs a rotate feature which would make selecting tiles a lot easier, as it is pretty clunky. The combat is pretty straight forward: move, attack or skill, defend. In between battles you can shop, skill up, change equipment. It's actually very easy to manage. If you like SRPGs it's an easy recommendation but it does need a little polish. Edit: I think the SP total is actually divided between each character, so if you earn 350 and use 4 characters they each earn roughly 87 a piece to use towards their own respective skills. Amenbrother Well-Known Member Jun 24, 2011 6,659 7 38 #19 Amenbrother, Nov 4, 2016 Sale... josiath21 Member Patreon Silver May 7, 2013 14 0 1 #20 josiath21, Nov 4, 2016 I'm loving this! The directional pad (which you don't have to use) makes a lot of sense and allow you to get into a rhythm. For me the biggest improvement over FFT is the fact you can get all the way to the "predicted damage" window, change your mind, and cancel your character's entire set of actions INCLUDING movement. This was a problem for me in FFT because I struggled with predicting ability ranges, but in MS2 you can take it back if it wasn't what you want. Like others have said, the Free Battle option allows you at any moment to jump into a battle of your choosing (you can pick from areas you've cleared and it tells you the predicted difficulty). So if I'm on break at work I can choose a really easy battle that won't risk going longer than my break. You can use touch mode rather than the d-pad, and there's a zoom if you're struggling selecting the right tile. The whole thing is pretty blatantly following the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" or whatever, following FFT, but this controls so much better for me, has an easy difficulty, and feels more reasonably casual. A lot of fun! (You must log in or sign up to post here.) Show Ignored Content Page 1 of 4 1 2 3 4 Next > Share This Page Tweet Your name or email address: Password: Forgot your password?
