Moveless Chess is an innovative chess game developed by Beavl. Your objective is to checkmate the black king without moving your pieces. But how then? By transforming your pieces into new ones. Every transformation costs Action Points (APs) and every level has a limited amount of APs. So use them wisely! //INITIAL RELEASE! * Unique gameplay with amazing retro feel. * A clever set of rules to cheat AI. * 64 levels to solve. * OST by amazing TranceCyberian. * Pixels, pixels and more pixels by talented pixel artist Aikalen. * One IAP to remove both timer and ads * We'll be updating it with new levels every week or so! //NOTE Moveless Chess was originally made for last ludum dare. Theme for this edition was "shapeshifting" and Moveless Chess finished 3rd in innovation! (out of more than 1.1K entries from all around the world). //MORE PRESS QUOTES “A clever take on chess” ~ (Toucharcade) "By stripping the classic game of one of its building blocks, designer and developer Nico Saraintaris teaches a very old dog some great new tricks. Meanwhile, Aikalen’s pixel art and theme add a lovely fantasy flare reminiscent of PC classics like Battle Chess." ~ (Gamezebo) ___________________________________ Moveless Chess site > http://movelesschess.com +1 us! > https://plus.google.com/+Beavl Like us! > http://facebook.com/beavlgames Follow us! > http://twitter.com/beavlgames Information Seller:Nicolas Saraintaris Genre:Board, Puzzle Release:Oct 12, 2016 Updated:Nov 11, 2016 Version:1.11 Size:116.0 MB TouchArcade Rating: User Rating: (3) Your Rating:unrated Compatibility:HD Universal Fio Well-Known Member Jun 4, 2014 380 2 18 Garden Island, Emerald City, Australia #2 Fio, Oct 13, 2016 Interesting. A daily challenge level might be cool, and the leaderboards would be based on the time it took to win it. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #10 vectorarchitekt, Oct 13, 2016 You'll start to get the hang of it. Iits like Portal, you feel like a genius when you win one lol Beavl Well-Known Member Aug 22, 2013 67 0 0 Buenos Aires http://beavl.com #11 Beavl, Oct 13, 2016 Thing is... We've implemented the hints feature, but through playtesting... Hints were not that good, solving a puzzle with the power of your own thought process is way more rewarding. So first two hints and then a generic one (trolling if you wish, or maybe encouraging?) for the rest of the game... But if you think proper hints would be better, we'll add'em in future updates! Cheers and thanks again for playing! However, I could see how things can get challenging in future levels given the progressive complexity. A hint system similar to the Quell series where you earn them with each solved puzzle has always been my favorite. Most seem to use a paid system which is nothing more than a money-grab, IMO. Beavl Well-Known Member Aug 22, 2013 67 0 0 Buenos Aires http://beavl.com #13 Beavl, Oct 14, 2016 A Quell-like system is really interesting... yeah, we are looking into that. Concerning timers (free mode), we are thinking on 8 minutes at start and 8 rewarded minutes more for every watched video (vs the 5 rewarded minutes we have in current version). Also, 3 minutes if you wait and watch no ads when you run out f time (vs the 2 minutes we have in current version). Do you guys think this could be somewhat "fairer"? (It's really hard to come up with a system that allows you to pay your studio bills and at the same time it's fair to the user. Cheers! Jubbleston Member Apr 26, 2015 7 0 0 #14 Jubbleston, Oct 15, 2016 Bought and really enjoying it! I love chess puzzles and I'm finding the twist to be quite challenging. Add me to the list of people stuck on level 16 -- been stumped there for awhile. Here's a design question: are the AI moves powered by a chess engine, or are they custom programmed for each puzzle? I've seen the AI make what I thought were suboptimal moves, ignorance of the player's magic power nonwithstanding. Jubbleston Member Apr 26, 2015 7 0 0 #15 Jubbleston, Oct 15, 2016 Just cleared level 16, whew! Without spoiling it I think I can say it requires a different strategic approach than any of the previous levels. Beavl Well-Known Member Aug 22, 2013 67 0 0 Buenos Aires http://beavl.com #16 Beavl, Oct 15, 2016 Yeah! Opponent's moves are powered by a chess AI. It valuates possible moves BY THE RULES OF CHESS, and chooses the best move unaware of your powers. Sometimes because of gaining material, sometimes to protect a piece, etc. Concerning how to solve levels (and without spoiling anything), best thing is to picture the checkmate position and then well... Using what are called Tactics in chess to achieve it (even though not knowing they are called like that): pins, sacrifices, deflection and so. And congrats on making it to the 17-32 level section! vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #17 vectorarchitekt, Oct 15, 2016 At this point I'm ready for a hint! I just can't figure it out. Beavl Well-Known Member Aug 22, 2013 67 0 0 Buenos Aires http://beavl.com #18 Beavl, Oct 15, 2016 Hey! Hint here > In this level, checkmate theme is what is called smothered mate (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smothered_mate). But the thing is... you have to rearrange the black pieces around the king to trap it and deliver a smothered mate. Also, considering pinning a black piece (pinning is a tactic in chess. From Wikipedia: In chess, a pin is a situation brought on by an attacking piece in which a defending piece cannot move without exposing a more valuable defending piece on its other side to capture by the attacking piece.) And hey. We confirm that we'll we working on a hint system for a future update, maybe somehow cryptic so as not to spoil, but we are thinking about it. Cheers and thanks for playing the game again! vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #19 vectorarchitekt, Oct 16, 2016 Thank you!
