Beta'd Spingun. This is a good week for IOS but do not miss this. The David. fellow has released a bittuva arcade classic here!
Gotta tell you guys, I'm in love with this game, poured many hours into it already. You guys also know I like challenging games so be warned, it's really simple on the surface, but as you dive in and give it a chance there is a lot of deep mechanics and tricks to improving its so wonderful! I had first place on leaderboards but dev took it back from me! I won't rest till I get it back! Haha if anyone really enjoys the game needs help or tricks I'll be around regularly =]
Hey Touchers! Happy release day WOOOO Thanks for your enthusiasm Esty and Sinagog. I'll be around here on the forums as well, so if anyone has any comments, questions, or just a fun idea for the game, I'm all ears!
I posted in the wrong thread somehow. So I deleted it and just replaced it with "Nvm" (nevermind). Sorry about that...
Ah, weird! Sorry about that, I'll look into this. Is anybody else having this problem? I ran into this issue with a few beta testers. They had to uninstall the Testflight build and redownload the live App Store version and then it worked as it should. Were you perhaps a part of the beta, @forcemajeure?
Thanks Duke. I suppose for now that trying again seems like the solution. Possibly need to close and reopen, or uninstall and redownload. Really sorry about this! This is my first time doing IAPs, and I thought I did everything I could to test it. I'll look into why this issue is happening for an update in the near future. Thanks for your patience!
I was in the beta and sent several messages about the way the controls are done and never received a response. I love the premise of the game. I love the art style and all of that. I love the developer too. David was an awesome game! My issue is having to press both buttons to fire. I have a hard time with this. It throws me off. I asked if there was a way to add other options and never got a response. Why can't the ship fire when I press the arrow to move? Why do I have to press both buttons? I'm just really having a tough time with it. Is there anyway to add additional controls? Billy
When I have a power up I don't want to auto shoot every time I move and I think the idea was to keep the game with only two buttons =p I will say you get used to it with time though it's pretty tough at first
Hey Billy, I must have lost your messages you sent me. Sorry for not replying! (How did you send these messages? I want to see how I missed them. You can direct message me here if you like.) Like Esty was saying, the game design of Spingun is entirely built off the idea of this two-button control scheme. I do admit that it takes some practice to train your brain how to fly, but once you start getting the hang of it, I think it feels very satisfying. The player has to balance the act of flying and shooting, and this is what drives many of the challenges in the design. Do you fly away and retreat to safety, or do you shoot the enemy head on? These moment-to-moment decisions are important keep the player constantly on their toes. To change this control scheme would be to change the core of the game. One thing you may find useful is landscape mode. You can turn your phone to landscape orientation and this will happen automatically. Some players (myself included) find that separating the two buttons makes controlling your ship feel more "right". If you'd like any other tips, I'm happy to help!
But in reality the game isn't two buttons. It's 4. You have to press both buttons exactly at the sametime to fire and then you totally stop moving. Even in the menus I have issues hitting both buttons at the sametime and constantly screw up. I have a disability after being injured permanently from work. While that's not your issue for some reason in this game it's really effecting me. If there's anyway we could maybe email each other and come up with some options that would be options I'd appreciate it. Until then I will keep trying but I tried and tried and tried with the beta. I always give it everything. I sent the emails via the response button in the TestFlight app btw. Billy
Thanks for your continued responses Billy. I definitely don't want the controls to "get in the way" of your enjoyment of the game; rather I want the controls to "be a part" of you enjoyment! I think I may have a possible solution to this. I'll definitely try something out and release it in the next update if it works out. Stay in touch! (As for the menus being frustrating sometimes, I do understand this. I think I have an idea of how to make this feel a bit nicer as well. It's on the to-do list for the next update!) //// Just to clarify, yes, Esty is correct here. You could hold the left button to fly around, and then ALSO press and hold the right button to begin shooting and stop your spin. No need to release or press both at the same time in-game. //// I'm glad you're having a good time with it mkaen! Thanks for writing.
