Graphics: Alright! Nothing fancy but it's doing the job. On the other hand there is nothing particularly vibrant or extraordinary about them so they are a bit above average. Animations are fine but especially the zombie fighting could have been done better. Overall it feels like they fit the game ok but something is missing. Something that makes me go "WoW! Really nice/fluid/fitting/cute graphics. 3/5 Sound: I think it is fine, nothing spectacular either. No voiced dialogs are a bit of a meh point and the music is not particularly exciting. Pretty average but nothing terrible 3/5 Gameplay: So there three parts of gameplay as far as I had seen in my first 1-2 hours with the game: 1. You are going from point A to B to C... etc. And you lose X% of various meters (hunger, thirst, sanity?) by doing so. There is nothing deep about these values, they are almost like an energy mechanic in a way. 2. You encounter either some zombies to fight which is done by actionspoints of 20 (maybe more later?) and you use those to move (3-5 points) and to shoot (depending on the weapon shotgun is 11 AP. The zombies move towards you in set set turns (4 tiles away, 3 tiles away etc.) and you can move further away or closer to keep the distance or close the distance. This is so, because your weapon has a higher chance to kill a zombie from closer range. You have a % chance to hit (which I could not figure out why the percentages were the way they were) and you then roll the dice so to say to kill all the zombies and move back if they are too close until all are dead. 3. You go into a supermarket, house etc. And match 3 parts of a particular object to create another object that needs 3 matches to then create another object that needs 3 matches of the same type. Then you can collect something like food etc. (Which refills the meters on the campaign map). This becomes more difficult to do when more objects are introduced and the gameboard gets smaller/filled with obstacles. You then collect on the map, what you have matched in the match 3 game and put it in your inventory to use it, when one or more of those 3 bars go low. So overall it's about gathering items in the match 3 environment to refill the bars to move onto some new points on the map (most was 2-3 options I had, the game is really linear). Sometimes you will encounter a story point which is mostly just dialogue. The match 3 mechanic is nothing new, and rather dull for me. The Zombie fighting gets really boring quite quickly and the "map" is just a "mission" selection at a cost (again think stamina here). You also have 3 lives which can either safe you in the match 3 mode when your board is empty or your time is up etc. Or on the map, when you couldn't refill your bars in time. They recharge 1 a pice in 1 hour. 2/5 Free to play: The free 2 play aspect comes in the form of ads (very occasionally but forced ads that you cannot skip), lives (3 with 1 taking 1 hour to recharge) and premium currency of gold coins which I have not really managed to find much but if you die once you need 20+ coins to get another try or lose a life that's basically all you have from the beginning I think. You can buy more coins in the shop. No ad removal, no life removal (from what I have seen at least), just coins. 2/5 Conclusion: Graphics and sounds are fine but pretty unimpressive at the same time. They kind of serve the purpose but as most of the time there is not much going on graphic wise I would expect some more quality in this department. The gameplay is very repetitive, the fighting is totally not fun and gets boring really quickly and the match 3 part is a bit challenging but overall just time consuming. Add to this some relatively heavy IAPs and live system as well as the pseudo-timers this game has a great premise in what it is trying to do but the gameplay parts are very poorly executed and the f2p model is just the icing on the cake here. 2/5 Nice try, better next time.
