I'll post impressions after I play for a few. Jenohart Well-Known Member Oct 29, 2010 289 0 0 Australia #11 Jenohart, Jul 21, 2016 Last edited: Jul 21, 2016 So spent a few minutes playing. I have some feedback, mainly on more technical things as I'm still fairly early in the game. Disclaimer, I haven't played either of the previous Terra Monsters games. The app store is kinda flooded with crappy looking monster collecting games so this one in particular stands out for being 3D and looking quite nice, so I understand why you would advertise the 3D. Feedback is kinda long so important statements in bold. First of all, there doesn't seem to be a "cancel" button during battle. As in, if I select a monster to attack and it goes to the next monster, I can't cancel and re-choose that first attack. Neither can I skip a monster's turn, which I might need to in order to catch a weaker monster that would otherwise die if attacked with all of my monsters. I've accidentally pressed the "flee" button looking for such a feature. I know some games like Pokemon don't have a "skip turn" button, but Pokemon doesn't allow more than one monster out at the same time for random encounters. Being able to cancel action selections during battle and skipping party member turns are very basic features of most RPGs, so it does puzzle me that these actions are missing in the game unless I'm missing something. Second, you might wanna consider reworking how you talk to NPCs. It feels strange that some NPCs you auto-talk to just by walking up to them while others require a button press (especially since the former can lead to accidentally talking to NPCs). I also encountered a problem where the generic pink haired girl NPC was standing too close to Willie(?) the treasure hunter for one of the early quests, and I was not able to talk to him until the girl NPC walked a fair distance away. That shouldn't happen, you should have talking only be through a button and have the range to talk to an NPC be much smaller. Also don't have NPCs stand too close to each other, as it can cause one NPC to be impossible to talk to. I'd also suggest having some sort of indication (like a glowing circle under their feet) on the overworld that NPCs/objects can be interacted with, as the non-quest related NPCs can be hard to notice sometimes. Third, the choice to integrate a "ranch" which is simultaneously a "place" to heal monsters and also manage them is an odd one. I like it in concept, what I don't like is being placed somewhere totally different on the map after leaving it. It's not always clear where you get placed after leaving the ranch, and it means if you don't want to lose your place then you are totally unable to manage your monsters or even just look at their stats. You shouldn't lock away basic features like that behind the penalty of losing progress. I know why you did it, because going to the ranch heals your monsters. Well, then it shouldn't! Ranches should never move you around the map. Make it so that it only heals your monsters if you're in a town or something. OR allow some basic features outside the ranch like checking up stats and using items on monsters. At the very least, make it obvious where going to the ranch will spit you out on the map. Put a glowing totem or something. Imagine if in Pokemon you weren't allowed to look at any of your pokemon, use items on them out of battle or change their order at all unless you went to a town. That would be sheer insanity and make progressing anywhere in the game a nightmare. Lastly onto some minor things. I notice clipping issues with player character models, I'm using the female with an open jacket and I can see my character's underarms clipping through the clothes during the walk cycle when viewed from behind in the caves. About that, while I do like the change in perspective you may want to consider tweaking controls for the cave view. Acceleration for turning is a bit too high, and can lead to your character being moved out of view which makes walking around awkward. You should try to keep the player character in the middle of the screen at all times if you're doing tank controls like that. Also, is there any way to move the camera on the world map? Some NPCs like the bandits ended up being covered by the trees and I couldn't see them if not for the quest markers. If you don't want to allow camera movement then maybe be careful of accidentally obscuring important things with trees and such. This one's just me, but personally I would like a way to speed up NPC dialogue without skipping to the next line. Many RPGs have it so one button press immediately shows the entire message and then the second one moves on to the next line. Pokemon and other RPGs also let the player manually choose the speed at which text is displayed which is a better solution, I usually set mine to instant. Also the first time I used a ranch it put me out in a totally unfamiliar place and I ended walking down to where I was before I entered the ranch, only to be greeted with an invisible wall for no reason. Really, this is a situation that a player shouldn't encounter. Like, put my character back in front of that NPC and let me walk the rest of the way. All that aside, my impression of the game itself is still fairly positive. A cute monster collecting RPG that still has a story and plot (albeit one with odd pacing, dialogue and tone, but I'll leave judgment of that for later). I do like some novel ideas such as letting us freely rotate the camera in battle and having monsters learn moves from items that come from card packs. The human character models and overworld look kinda rough and ugly, but the monsters themselves and battle areas look beautiful. This is where stylistically I would've gone with a lush 2D map overworld with the fancy 3D graphics for battles like some Kemco RPGS do. Still, a promising start and a decent cute monster collecting game. PBSNellie Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2013 1,381 168 63 Southern CA #12 PBSNellie, Jul 21, 2016 First of all, thank you to the developers for the redeem code. I've had a few minutes before work to start this and I will make a few comments. 1) What the previous person said about equipping ignite is correct. I think it could be a bug, as I had followed the instructions the first time to equip the skill and I still had the problem. When I started the game over, it was fine. 2) The controls take a minute to get used to and they are very laggy to start. I would suggest lowering the resolution to 1024 x 768 as that makes everything move a lot better. 3) I'm concerned about the low rate of gathering resources for a paid game. I am wondering if I will hit a paywall soon. I will play some more as I can during the day to find out. Otherwise, I think is a fun game and could be better with a little bit of user input and tweaking. maxbrickem Well-Known Member Aug 25, 2009 327 0 16 #13 maxbrickem, Jul 21, 2016 Hey all, for those of you into the game, does it seem like a lengthy game? Are there many side quests and objectives to do w secret dungeons areas etc? also what is there IAP like if there is any? thanks! That's an amazing response - I will take the time to respond to you properly in another reply. @PBSNeille 1) I'll check into that 2) what device are you running, I'm glad its not lagging once you have changed the resolution. 3) Comments like this are really helpful for us. We feel like we have a good balance of how quickly you acquire game currency. We don't want it to flood the player too early with money - it does become easier to get money as the game goes on - you will not hit a paywall, you may have to grind in certain spots to level up your monsters if you ever find a particularly challenging battle. We're still actively balancing the game though. @maxbrickem I would estimate the game story takes around 24hours + to complete. It took me and various testers at least that long. There are side quests, and little dungeons to explore. There are IAPs mainly for a player that wants to progress through the game VERY quickly - things such as level boosts and ultra crystals (master ball) can be obtained in 'legendary packs' with a higher probability than they appear in the normal packs. We feel like this is fair but are willing to hear thoughts if people think otherwise PBSNellie Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2013 1,381 168 63 Southern CA #15 PBSNellie, Jul 21, 2016 brybry Well-Known Member Jan 24, 2013 178 0 0 #16 brybry, Jul 21, 2016 Jenohart hit upon a lot of things... There seems to be a bit of an issue when it comes to viewing your monsters. Having to go to a ranch just to see your monsters stats is a bit frustrating. I also find it annoying that you can't just level up and get skills, you have to buy cards. Now, that wouldn't be a problem if in-game currency was readily available, but it seems like it's extremely scarce. I don't gripe over iap's in a paid game, but when you have no choice but to buy iap's in order to progress is where I have an issue. I wish you could choose whether or not to use all 3 monsters in a random monster encounter as well. Having all three come out and attack a monster you are trying to capture can be frustrating. The game is just a tad bit glitchy. It's kicked me out once already. I also can't complete the mission of equipping the skill to my main monster (even though I already equipped it). The game isn't bad, there are just adjustments that need to be made before this game can be considered amazing. JohnnyClash Well-Known Member Mar 11, 2016 611 1 0 #17 JohnnyClash, Jul 21, 2016 Does this game have screen orientation or screen rotation?.. We can't replicate the crash but we are working on making sure quests don't end up in limbo due to a crash. Regarding currency, it seems we may have overlooked the early game distribution of currency once we were playing mid game and end game content. We will increase the currency distribution for the early game so that is is more in line with the rest of the game. Also, adding ranch exit spawn markers to the world. andrew2110 Member Sep 6, 2013 12 0 0 #20 andrew2110, Jul 21, 2016 Overwhelmed by the feedback and have added a few features off of your guys feedback so far (most noticeably it there's a marker where the current ranch respawn location is) I'm Andrew - along with the others I worked on the game and am responsible for the code and therefore some of the glitches you're experiencing. Being at the start of the game, we've done this part of it hundreds of times, even if you select the wrong element moves pack or try to select the wrong monster, it should always give you a card you can equip to your main monster so this issue is a concern.
