You are an archer that's tasked with protecting your tower with your bow and arrows. You aim your bow by sliding your finger up or down on the screen while timing the release. Headshots are instant kills while shooting them in the chest or foot slows them down. I love the attention to detail, from the way the enemy limps when you shoot them in the foot(he's stagnant for a few seconds which helps to line up a better shot) or the flies that circle the corpse when the enemy dies. There's blood, but you can turn it off in the settings. There are different enemy types, each with there own characteristics. One of the enemies just runs toward the tower making it difficult to hit him, while you have another that moves slower, but has armor that you have to break through. There's also one that moves quicker, but he shoots arrows at you making it a little more challenging to take him down. You have a blacksmith that crafts different types of arrows that have different benefits. That brings me to the only issue I have with the game. There are two types of currencies; gold and green rubies. I've never been a fan of multiple currencies, but in this case, they seem to be earned at a generous rate. I'm only on day 12, so hopefully nothing changes. There are other ways to earn currency besides completing the stages. During gameplay, a gift box randomly pops up on the screen and you just need to tap it to open it. Sometimes it'll give you currency and other times, it asks you to watch an ad to claim currency. The ads are optional and they're very generous with what it gives you. It also gives you an option on refilling your arrows during gameplay which you will need to do from time to time. The rubies are used to speed up crafting which is not that long. The downside to waiting(if you don't want to use your rubies)is you can't leave the screen. I went to the next stage expecting for the crafting to be done afterwards just to find that the counter had started over. As far as I can tell, you literally have to stay on that screen for 30 seconds or whatever the crafting time is. You purchase the upgrades with gold; rubies are for crafting, buying more arrows if you run out during gameplay and expanding how many items can be crafted at a time. The graphics are gorgeous and as mentioned earlier, the attention to detail is nice. The game doesn't break any new ground, but what it does, it does well. Before I forget, there are IAPs for rubies; gold is purchased by using the rubies. As far as I can tell, the IAP isn't necessary. There are two other archers which you can unlock after the default character's story is done. Don't let the two types of currency thing steer you from picking this up. I have no regrets. It's well polished and very fun. It's .99 cents well spent IMO. Update edit. I made a mistake in my summary. Gold is used to upgrade your bow. The arrows have what they call "blacksmith queue"; it has something to do with crafting specialty arrows I believe. You use rubies to speed it up or you can add extend how many can be in "crafting queue". I think that's how it goes. I must've missed that part in the tutorial.... rIcHrAnDoM Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Nov 17, 2008 7,936 30 38 Steelworker/Welder Indiana, USA #4 rIcHrAnDoM, Jul 18, 2016 No GameCenter? The tutorial as I recall had a single use of a speedup IAP which they gave for free. In addition they seem to be fairly generous with giving out more. UPDATE: I'm not sure when the "tutorial" exactly is defined as ending, as I've played through 5 missions now and they seem to introduce new game concepts (bows and arrows) periodically. It's plausible the guy who posted played far past where I did so I shouldn't judge his comment yet. Still thus far for me, the game seems generous with rewards and decently balanced. I haven't needed to grind or redo a mission yet. The most waiting I did was about a minute to refill my arrows. And again if you are really skilled you likely won't even need to refill. Anyway, the game is more skill/timing based than most, so you may or may not like it, and much of the IAP is based around getting more arrows. So if you are really skilled it's plausible you just won't need more (too early for me to tell how the difficulty scales). The animations I find hilarious, particularly after turning blood on. It's fun to shoot a guy in the leg to slow him down and then finish him with a head shot, but strategically it's more efficient to time it right and get a single headshot kill. Worth trying out for 99 cents IMHO. YMMV. gmattergames Well-Known Member Mar 1, 2013 607 42 28 #11 gmattergames, Jul 19, 2016 Not sure who at 1der thought mixed-monetization was a good idea. Unless it's an established franchise, or they're getting an AppStore feature, launching a freemium game with an upfront price is a the best way to limit a new games exposure. On the other hand, perhaps the out of the box game play is worth every penny of the premium. spidersynth Member Apr 6, 2015 10 0 1 #12 spidersynth, Jul 19, 2016 I think it's a very enjoyable game.
