Hey there! I just released my first game. It's a retro-future styled puzzle game where you have to place down items to guide the laser to the target. It starts off pretty simple but gets progressively harder as it introduces more items and concepts. There's also a level editor so you can create your own crazy levels which I can then publish in the game. It's completely free and with no IAP. Cheers! It's always so tempting to go over the top with bloom and neon glowing effects when working in this style, so I like that you kept the simple clean look so the visuals don't get in the way of the puzzles. Awesome stuff. RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #5 RedFragment, Jun 30, 2016 Thank you! The game is made in Cocos2D btw. Easy mechanics. Does not appear to have any ads. For a freebie, this is certainly worth a look. RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #8 RedFragment, Jun 30, 2016 Hey, glad you like it! The game does include some un-obtrusive ads though. I dislike ads myself, but unfortunately that's the simplest way to monetize a free game today. The game includes a reward system where you can request to watch a video in exchange for a hint. This is completely optional though. saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #9 saosijs, Jul 1, 2016 The propriety leaderboard seems to be stuck in my case. It says 60 points, but I played several levels and still says 60 points. Also, how is the score calculated? I see people with weird scores. And any chance to implement Game Center? RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #10 RedFragment, Jul 1, 2016 It might take up to 1h for the scores to update. It's calculated based on how many stars you got. Later levels are worth more. saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #11 saosijs, Jul 1, 2016 Last edited: Jul 2, 2016 Hm, ok. I prefer GC then I played a few levels and it is still quite easy, but it is well implemented. Could explain what to get to get 3 stars, that is not so obvious. [edit] Additionally, when 1-starring a level, there is no way to immediately retry the level, only to continue to next level. And when going back to it via the menu and trying to improve on it, I finished the level again with apparently the same number of game pieces, but the level didn't finish, not even warn me I hadn't really improved the level. All this needs much better game ergonomics. RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #12 RedFragment, Jul 2, 2016 GC is something I'm still investigating. Personally I don't like it but I see the merit of it. The first few levels are easy, but believe me, it gets much harder That's a good idea about retrying. I'll add a button on the win screen to restart the level in case you didn't get 3 stars. I agree about the stars as well, will try to find a better way to show you how many items you need to improve your score. saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #13 saosijs, Jul 2, 2016 Last edited: Jul 2, 2016 Thanks for replying! Also the simple fact that the stars are about how many items you used, isn't so obvious to someone just starting to play the game GC is good to advertise your game. I mean, I'm looking frequently what my friends are playing to get ideas and to see how far they are in games we share (progress leaderboard) and what their best scores are (competitive leaderboard). And it shows names, not just many "Unnamed". By the way, I show up on the in-game proprietary leaderboard as "saosi" where I have saosijs configured. Another one: I just improved 01-09 to three stars, but then instantly the finish sequence started and I had not even time to look at my solution. Also going back to it doesn't show my solution anymore (unlike when I got 1 or 2 stars). saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #14 saosijs, Jul 2, 2016 I just unlocked W2 and it's getting interesting now. Good difficulty progression. The information on how far the beams reach is quite important, can that be added to the image of the source, like with a small number? RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #15 RedFragment, Jul 2, 2016 That's a good observation and is something I experimented with during development. Unfortunately, it turns out that just a number is not indicative enough of how long the beam is, or it just makes it more confusing. It's hard to imagine how far 465 in comparison to 748 is, especially when going diagonally and bouncing etc. So in the end, the best way to figure it out was to just try it. saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #16 saosijs, Jul 3, 2016 Yeah you're right. I wouldn't know either how to indicate it well in all situations... By the way, can you confirm that 01-10 is possible with 5 items (3 not used)? Some more small issues: please allow the game to rotate (180 degrees). Allow to "improve" on solutions for user levels, just like for the standard levels. RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #17 RedFragment, Jul 3, 2016 There will be some numbers indicating this in the next version. That's a good point. I'll look into implementing GC right after this, but it might take a while. It takes a while to update, and it's correct now. This is fixed in the next version. Yes, it is Great ideas! This will be possible in the next version as well. I already submitted it, so just waiting on Apple to review it now Attached Files: stars.jpg File size: 33.9 KB Views: 76 saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #18 saosijs, Jul 4, 2016 Got 01-10 now! Clever! Sometimes you just don't see it The game progress could show 60/60 instead of 20/20 (or show both: levels and stars) Looking forward to the update! By the way, how sure are you that the 3-star solution is the optimal solution? Could there be better solutions that you hadn't thought of before? If yes, then it would be cool to reward the player somehow, or even have a leaderboard for "4-starred" levels RedFragment Member Jun 25, 2016 12 0 0 #19 RedFragment, Jul 4, 2016 Yes, to my surprise, this happened a few times. For some levels, I was sure there is no way that they can be done better, and then somebody does it The next version will include those better solutions, so technically the levels stay the same but it gets harder to get all stars. saosijs Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2012 1,483 2 38 Brazil #20 saosijs, Jul 4, 2016 I am wondering, sometimes I left some unused pieces on the field and still got 3 stars, this is because you don't count items through which no light passes? You could consider leave a little bit margin to get 3 stars in the more complicated levels. Otherwise for most players it will be very frustrating to play (I expect). And it will give the players that do get better than the default 3 star value (a special bonus) a good feeling about themselves and the game (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
