Looking for some more imps. Avatre Well-Known Member Apr 30, 2013 416 0 16 #5 Avatre, Jun 22, 2016 I've played an hour or so of this so far, and I'm still not entirely sure whether I like it. The art style is beautiful and it controls well, though I'd prefer the option of a fixed v-stick. There seems to be something of a story though how immersing or deep it is, I can't say yet. It's the combat that I don't really like.. it's turn based, but the art for the battle scene seems half-arsed, more a black screen with your character card and the enemy card. To attack, you have to hold down and then drag to use a sort of radial thingy, you can charge, move in closer, flee and move back. Your hit chance is based on your range, so if you're using a gun like I am, you're better off backing away. It works well enough, it just could have been so much better. In the first village, you get to 'work' to earn credits, at the inn or the tavern. These jobs pay a varying amount and take up several hours of the day. You can save the game up to 3 times for each day, but then you need to sleep. There's a hunger and a tiredness factor which doesn't seem to have much of a point at the minute, other than defeat in battle if you become fatigued. There could be more to this further along, and at the minute I'm enjoying it enough to continue. meponder Member Patreon Silver Apr 23, 2013 10 0 1 #6 meponder, Jun 23, 2016 I was a fan of the PalmOS Ackeron. I'm looking forward to giving this a try. Downloading now. Wicuicad Well-Known Member Apr 6, 2015 97 0 0 #7 Wicuicad, Jun 23, 2016 Playing and enjoying. So long ago now (2001?!) Did you play the original by chance? I'm curious how the translation from old to new is holding up. Still, at $1 it's hard to complain. Just may have to doubledip again istara Well-Known Member Mar 10, 2009 157 2 18 #9 istara, Jun 26, 2016 I'm enjoying this but finding it too hard and I'm not sure if I'll continue. Despite getting better eq and raising stats, I still seem to barely hit and battles take *ages*. Lack of a quest log is problematic because I couldn't remember what one guild task was. There's a lot to like about this game but an Easy mode would really make it more bearable. badmanj Well-Known Member Mar 16, 2009 1,886 24 38 Software developer Reading, England http://www.underground-collective.com #10 badmanj, Jul 10, 2016 Looks interesting and I'd have given it a go at $1 but it's now up to $3 and there are only a few comments on the game which makes me wary. Is this a winner, even at the increased price or should I give it a miss?! istara Well-Known Member Mar 10, 2009 157 2 18 #11 istara, Jul 10, 2016 It's a hugely long game and well worth the money. You'll get hours of gameplay from it. If there aren't many comments it's probably because the game is pretty intuitive in terms of the storyline (though I did pm the dev about one password I couldn't find). There are some unique features too: I particularly like the trading feature that lets you earn a tonne of exp, and also the combat stance feature. The work mechanic seems kind of silly, juggling tiredness and hunger. It's pretty monotonous. So it's there to pretend (role play) work I guess? That's put me a bit off. Also the combat is sorta... Lame. At least early on. Same thing, simple and requiring little thinking despite the options it try's to give you. I'll keep powering through to give it a fair shake but I'm thinking this was only considered good because of the lack of competition on a palm. To be fair, I'm only an hour in.. istara Well-Known Member Mar 10, 2009 157 2 18 #13 istara, Jul 11, 2016 I agree that the rest and hunger thing gets tedious - I'm about to enter the last stage and it looks like dozens of fights with no opportunity to rest or return to the mainland for a rest. Not sure how it will go. Also unless you possibly join the Tech guild, you can't get your Tech high enough to use the best portable rest device. Combat gets better as you get more powerful and get the top combat stances. Tip: skip the fourth and go straight for the fifth, Shadow. Then get the sixth, Vortex. To get more crystals do lots of trading and meet needs: eventually each town is happy enough to give you a Nexus crystal. I eventually got the fourth stance after the sixth and it's pretty much useless. james.miller Active Member Jul 5, 2016 40 0 0 Dropout! What are we missing? ghulten New Member Jun 10, 2016 2 0 0 #17 ghulten, Aug 2, 2016 Some hints for the Overseer: 1) The Overseer is the first enemy with Psi damage. Make sure you have some defense. 2) Try to find the spires that teach combat stances -- they really help. 3) Use spells, especially a buff on yourself and a debuff on the Overseer. 4) Watch your fatigue -- it can really reduce your stats. Don't be afraid to take a rest, even in combat. Good luck saving Ackeron! (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
