Not just cosmetic either, I ran out of turbo in the first mission and was told to wait until it refills or visit the shop. I could speed up the timer which was still at 31 minutes when I found the shop, so I assume it is a 45 minute wait. Then I need bones, which you can get in game but of course I didnt have enough so it wanted to sell me some. Poor form of IAP in a 4 dollar title. AppUnwrapper Well-Known Member Oct 26, 2011 4,062 3 0 http://www.appunwrapper.com/escape-games/ #3 AppUnwrapper, Jun 16, 2016 That's disappointing. Looks like a cool game. Love the artwork. And $4 is the introductory price. :/ the canopy Member Jun 16, 2016 15 0 0 #4 the canopy, Jun 16, 2016 @guzzla, I will say for the $4 price tag, I myself don't want IAP, but I've been playing the game the last few hours and you definitely don't need to buy anything. There are smaller missions around the city you could do that give you quick points. There is also free adds you can watch which gave me 600 points each time. I refilled my turbo meter within 5 minutes. Oh, and also, the time it shows is for a full refill. It fills up gradually every 5-10 minutes. Overall I'd have to say its the coolest game I've played in a long time! For an indie developer, they did amazing i think and most indies need all the money they can get so i have no problem supporting this game! @appunwrapper, the IAP are not in your face at all. They are only in the shop. I'm on mission 6 now and so far I've bought 3 dogs and customized them, without spending any money on IAP. I would say try it for yourself, I think you would really like it!! guzzla Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze May 12, 2015 162 0 0 #5 guzzla, Jun 16, 2016 Last edited: Jun 16, 2016 Yeah you shouldnt have to watch ads to refill your energy in a premim game. Also, I will add that the side missions are not that great. I had one where I raced another dog, no challenge to it at all. Another one required me to tackle a grafiti artist, and two others required me to chase a purse snatcher. These "side missions" immediately respawn and seem to serve no purpose other than to farm bones to refill your energy for the main quests. They are neither challenging nor interesting and take about 30 seconds to do. Not sure about the campaign since I refuse to watch ads or farm bones to play it. The art style is nice and the controls are not bad, but I am already deleting it....GTA with dogs it is not, not even in the same universe. the canopy Member Jun 16, 2016 15 0 0 #6 the canopy, Jun 16, 2016 i think the side missions were pretty much put there to do what you said, which is too farm the bones to be able to refill faster. I don't mind it. The campaign itself is really fun. Once you get to mission 4, it turns into a cool first person burning warehouse mission. Also, from what the developer wrote, he plans on adding a lot more content with more funding. I think everyone needs to start somewhere, and for what this indie game is, i think its pretty cool. You also don't need to farm bones unless you want to buy the characters or accessories. the bones don't really effect the actual gameplay itself, unless you run out of turbo or life. After mission 3, you really don't even need turbo, unless your racing. I won't be deleting it since they are going to keep adding more content and stuff, but to each is own! rezn Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Mar 8, 2014 862 6 18 Male Coder/Keyer in medical ICD 10 Reno, NV #7 rezn, Jun 16, 2016 Thank you for posting the info about an energy system in a $4 premium game. I liked the look of this too. But it's just going to have to be free for me personally to even bother. Sadly this pay premium and then grind for energy crap is why I've spent the last year mostly buying indie games on Steam & Humble. the canopy Member Jun 16, 2016 15 0 0 #8 the canopy, Jun 16, 2016 i don't know how many of you are or know indie developers, but they don't make much money, so I'm sure they try by any means. People spend more money on burger king during the week than on a $4 game. I say before you take someone else's opinion and slam a game, try it out for yourself. like you said, $4 isn't a fortune. I can also tell you first hand, I've been playing this game on and off throughout the day and I have yet to spend any money outside of the initial purchase. You don't need to pay to play, you don't need turbo after mission 1 actually (once you use the points you get to speed up your dog), you don't technically need to buy ANYTHING and can beat the missions. I'd say the stuff in the in app store is more for kids that feel the need to buy every dog, every accessory, and every power up. As a gamer, I can vouch for this game and say you will not need to spend more than the $4. Have a little patience, play the quick missions, watch an ad or two, and after mission 1, you'll be fine. Unless you suck and lose, then yes, you'll need to wait about 10 minutes for a bar of life to refill, but honestly, look at other games. FTP or games that are .99 that offer extremely priced IAP like $20-$100. This game doesn't do that. It's modestly priced and truthfully (you would think this is my game), i think its well worth its price. but again, if you want to slam a game before actually trying it, so be it. i'm enjoying it and its different. The Dev (maybe you) played pro ball and had a dream of building a game. Because it's a credible journalist and cool story you may have sold me. But I am going to hold out a few days to see if the game removes the energy system or vice versa. I would always prefer it to just be premium and not freemium. That's my personal taste as I will almost always delete a freemium game with an energy system within a week. It just cheapens the game experience for me no matter how badly I want to play it. Again kudos on the Vice post. It was very good. But I still feel the way I do. And that's not going to change. Maybe this is just how mobile games will be across the board one day. And thus I will spend more money in areas where premium games are thriving more. Again good luck. DarkPuppy Member Jun 16, 2016 11 0 0 #12 DarkPuppy, Jun 16, 2016 You can play the game without going for the IAP just as easly as if you would. I bought the game yesterday. You do run out of energy or healh, and it does take time to regenerate. The thing is, you can still play the game. If you want to refill them faster, you need bones. And in order to get bones, you do side missions. And side missions are simple to win even though you don't have health or energy. I think the IAP is just for those people that want to finish the game as fast as possible. The game is totally playable even if you don't buy anything within the game. It will just require some more simple, side missions to do. Like 3 or 4. Just like any other game where you need to actually PLAY in order to get where you want. heartydragon Well-Known Member Apr 30, 2016 124 0 16 #13 heartydragon, Jun 16, 2016 Anybody got a vid of gameplay. I'm not obligated to come on here and say anything to anybody. What I say is my own personal opinion, and should only be taken as such. I'd like to say thank you to all of those who are being reasonable people, those that realize that the IAPs are completely optional and continue to play, and those that like the idea of supporting a very small indie team that put years of effort, work hours, and money into this game. I hope you're enjoying what we spent a good part of our lives creating for you. To those that whine and complain about the combination of a paid game with IAPs, that threaten to uninstall the game, or not even give it a shot simply because of that: Why do you think you're so entitled? The IAPs are (once again) completely optional. You don't need to buy them for any reason, so if you would rather not, that's fine. It doesn't hurt you that we included them. It only facilitates a means for users to play the way they want more quickly. This is a game we spent a lot of time and money on to bring you great quality and a fun experience. You wouldn't expect to go to work for a few years and not get paid, right? Why should we? So you've skipped your morning coffee to buy this game, maybe that's why you're unable to think rationally. You've misplaced your frustration here because we've included something that doesn't affect you, because you were never going to buy IAPs in the first place, and we've designed it not to be a requirement. I honestly can't understand why something so inconsequential would adversely affect you so much as to come onto some forum to complain, threaten to uninstall, and generally preemptively dissuade other users from something they might actually have enjoyed were it not for you. It honestly incensed me enough that after 7 pages of no real criticism, and accusing other users to the point where they feel bad, to register here and give you some of my perspective. Not that you asked for it, and not that you'll care either way. You've already moved on, and you've missed out because you were too stubborn to look past something that is a mistake in your opinion. If you don't like it, why don't you try making the game the game you'd like to see? The people that have played the game here (namely paying customers), save for the two suspicious one, stated that are timers that prevent playing if you fail a level. The options are, according to them, pay, watch an ad or grind a boring side-quest. So, in their point of view the IAP is not "non-intrusive". I, myself, have no problem paying for IAP on paid games, if I think they are fair. Based on those info, though, it is not. I can sympathize with a dev and I think people should pay more for games and that your work should be repaid. That is not the point. My issues is that maybe the game impairs the gameplay to force IAP or watching ads. I might overlook it and give it a try anyway. However, there's a real possibility that the devs are doing shady thing as posing as users to defend the game, which makes me feel less inclined to pay. You mistake criticism for unbased rant.
