It's like chess with HP and abilities. Taking enemy spaces like in Chess is instakill. Alternatively, you have action points to spend each turn to use attack skills instead of taking enemy spaces chess-style, therefore giving the option to take them down SRPG style. Cant say much about the controls and stuff since i didnt get the iOS version. ojtitus Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2010 3,228 5 38 Male Canton, Ohio #3 ojtitus, May 19, 2016 I love Warhammer 40k, this looks like a fun mix. Exact-Psience Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2012 22,664 2 38 The Work-At-Home Guy Philippines #5 Exact-Psience, May 19, 2016 Yes. It's basically chess, with action points to use during each of your "chess turns." mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #6 mzinn, May 19, 2016 I'll be smashing buy when I get home. Looks like an updated version of UHR Warlords touchy85 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2015 1,616 1 38 #7 touchy85, May 19, 2016 Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Definitely one of the better Warhammer games on iOS. Like the combo of chess and turn based strategy. I accidentally closed the tutorial and then there was no way to replay the tutorial, please keep this in mind. Makes the game way more confusing than necessary . In the beginning there are only space marines and orcs and the ingame prices for the unlocks are a bit high imo. forsakenxe Well-Known Member Oct 23, 2014 709 0 16 #8 forsakenxe, May 19, 2016 What has been posted here so far sounds really cool, I would appreciate a (longer?) gameplay video so I can make up my mind. I bought it just to support, never mind the fact I love chess and turn based games like fire emblem and advance wars.. This one should be good.. Says you can play chess mode OR extended regicide mode so that's cool.. luckystrikeguy Well-Known Member Sep 18, 2013 615 7 18 #10 luckystrikeguy, May 19, 2016 Last edited: May 19, 2016 I find this game to be super fun and tactical. But first and foremost I think you have to like or at least respect chess in order to get into it. you move your pieces like chess so you can castle or if a pawn makes it to other side(slim chance here lol) etc. then you spend action points for shooting your gun, cloaking or a special ability that's available to that specific unit or the faction. So in a sense you have an xcom type game between movement phases. It's also worth noting that all the factions can be unlocked with the points you get from playing. It's a grind for sure but you're not stuck behind a paywall and there are no f2p shenanigans here. davidovich Well-Known Member Sep 26, 2008 299 13 18 #11 davidovich, May 19, 2016 Thanks. One last question - does the tutorial teach you how to play. If not, I may start learning how to play chess. This looks really good. Battle chess/xcom kinda game grenadedodger Well-Known Member Jul 6, 2010 653 0 0 Manchester, UK #13 grenadedodger, May 19, 2016 Well I'm a self confessed Games Workshop geek, I've bought every Warhammer or 40k game ever released (on iOS, not like every board game, though most of those too), so I see no reason to buck the trend now!..... Helps that this actually looks decent, love me a bit of async too! gaymerX Well-Known Member Dec 30, 2014 280 0 16 #14 gaymerX, May 19, 2016 Also available for $5 on Steam. forsakenxe Well-Known Member Oct 23, 2014 709 0 16 #15 forsakenxe, May 19, 2016 There are a decent number of videos on YouTube about this game to get an idea. I think I will wait for a sale, as this seems to require quite some time in one sitting and I have too many games eating up this time already. Looks ok though no chess fan either. V Kuolema Well-Known Member Jun 30, 2011 431 27 28 Canada #16 V Kuolema, May 19, 2016 So I love chess. I jumped at this game and so far I really like. Some things: One of the Ork clans is unlocked by some really annoying system of joining their forums and doing a bunch of achievements to earn "Honor Points". Id rather pay 1.40$. It's going to bug me I can't unlock it. I'm an 1800 FIDE ELO Rated player in Chess and, at least on classic chess, the AI barely puts up a fight. Considering how advanced chess engines have become it's a little surprising it's so weak. I'm not into Warhammer and identifying the pieces is very hard. Even if you enable the little icons instead of using standard chess icons they use weird (although presumably recognizable to people immersed in Warhammer) ones that I still don't recognize. Visually a lot of the marines looks similar so identifying the state of the board at a glance isn't easy at least not for me. The Regicide version of chess is really interesting. I have a lot to learn about how it plays out but it definitely is fun. Good single player campaign and a skirmish mode is all I need. Really Happy about that. It runs pretty well. Burns battery like crazy on my 5S. For 4$ (or 7 I think it was here in Canada) it really is a great deal. Super impressed.
