There are no ads and none of the hardcore FTP shenanigans. There are two currencies, both of which are obtainable in game, and there is a stamina system in which each hole or online matchup uses a set increment, but none of it is aggressively implemented. The stamina setup regenerates at a pretty generous rate. I've personally made one $3 in-app purchase, not out of necessity, but simply to play a lottery draw for equipment.
