I'm an and indie developer from Ukraine and I want to tell you about Evo Explores. More then tree months have been passed after Evo Explores was released on other mobile platforms. All this time I was polishing the game so iOS users can have best experience playing the game. Evo Explores was built on top of Monument Valley's mechanics and I'm not hiding it. But I brought to the game several new mechanics that will blow your mind even more then original game did. There are several games I took some ideas from. They are Echochrome (PS2 game) and Bloxorz (don't know if this original game or not). If you want to read the story about development of the game, you're welcome here: IndieDB If you liked MV and wanted to play more of it, like I did when I started development, Evo Explores is definitely for you. I know we're gonna get a handful of people complaining that this is too much like Monument Valley, but man...screw that. This is flippin' great and I love that the devs have basically written a love letter to ustwo. I sincerely hope ustwo feel the same. Yes it is like MV but this is not important for me. Because this is like most of platform or arcade games look like each other every time with little changes. And surprise that it has several languages as Turkish Thanks.. Not just a sad clone of Monument Valley but a game that uses the style and mechanics while introducing new clever way to solve the puzzles. Makes me happy I got this. This can stand on its own. Great game. ROGER-NL Well-Known Member May 21, 2012 4,030 340 83 Male Gamer. I don't know if it's wrong to support these MV-inspired games, but I can't help myself. I want more MV and this is as close to it as we're going to get, I think. Plus, it has iCloud saves. THE NETHERLANDS #8 ROGER-NL, Apr 10, 2016 Hi AppUnwrapper, don't feel guilty, why should you, each game out there borrows from another geme that is called evolution, I still might look like an Neanderthal but I play games like a human ha ha. AppUnwrapper Well-Known Member Oct 26, 2011 4,062 3 0 http://www.appunwrapper.com/escape-games/ #9 AppUnwrapper, Apr 10, 2016 I guess because this borrows so much that people might see screenshots and actually think it's more MV? Would love to know how ustwo feels about it. But it's really done nicely. ROGER-NL Well-Known Member May 21, 2012 4,030 340 83 Male Gamer. THE NETHERLANDS #10 ROGER-NL, Apr 10, 2016 I think Ustwo is very busy with Monument Valley 2 that they don't even care, and I think they could do some inspiration from Dream Machine and Evo Explores up to use in their own game. AppUnwrapper Well-Known Member Oct 26, 2011 4,062 3 0 http://www.appunwrapper.com/escape-games/ #11 AppUnwrapper, Apr 10, 2016 Nah, I think they've been pretty clear that they're not making anymore MV. Which is part of why I'm ok with other devs doing it -- we're all craving more! Btw, I can't seem to go back and play older levels. If I go to any doors besides the next one, they won't re-open. Am I missing something or is there no way to select a level? ROGER-NL Well-Known Member May 21, 2012 4,030 340 83 Male Gamer. THE NETHERLANDS #12 ROGER-NL, Apr 10, 2016 Never say never, I liked the Totem the most in MV. About the doors in Evo I noticed that too, I think you have to get to the red door at the top of the over world and when you reached that door all levels will open or something like that. TheGreatEscaper Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2014 1,025 22 38 #14 TheGreatEscaper, Apr 10, 2016 Just finished it. It's nice, but it didn't feel as interesting as MV or dream machine. I played it through to see it to the end, not because I was enthralled by it. I enjoyed the inclusion of the tape character, but the only time they made a difficult puzzle with it was in the last level. KirillKuzyk Active Member Apr 9, 2016 27 0 1 Indie :) Ukraine, Kiev #15 KirillKuzyk, Apr 10, 2016 I'm closing all the doors when you open a new chapter. I made so because people were accidentally returning to the chapters they already completed. You can select any previous door by returning to the main level via pause -> top right button. Yeah, difficulty is a big complaint. Evo Explores is harder then MV in my opinion. But I still wanted to make the game everyone can complete regardless of skill level. I'll make a sequel harder. This can sound conroversial, but making hard levels is easier then easy ones. Thank you all for a nice feedback! I would also like to see some trickier levels next time, but I still enjoyed it. Obviously, MV felt more magical because it was so unique and the first(?) of its kind, and it could get away with being easier. With Evo, I imagine most people already played MV by now and would want something that builds on MV's ideas. I think this game did introduce some new things, but those didn't last long -- like the levels with two Evos, or the one that flattens into a 2D plane. I would have liked to see more of that. The cassette was a nice replacement for Totem, and I'm glad you took the same relaxed approach as MV. A few sections did stump me a bit, but never enough to get frustrating. Overall, I think you did a great job capturing the essence of MV. The story did seem a bit tacked on, though. I liked the idea, but didn't really see it reflected in the levels. I kept wanting that to be fleshed out a bit more than just as text. mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #17 mzinn, Apr 10, 2016 Thanks to AppUnwrapper for her video post. I received the email, saw the screenshot & hoped it was as good as it looked. I watched 10 seconds of the video & smashed the buy button. I'm really impressed with this game. I have only played a few levels but could not be happier. You did it. You did what others tried but couldn't capture & you've added your own unique spin.
