Stingman Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Aug 14, 2012 249 0 0 App / Game Developer The Bay Area http://www.selosoft.com #3 Stingman, Mar 12, 2016 Haven't posted on TA in such a long time but I had to make a post on this. I think this game is actually a lot of fun. Slick controls, good graphics, fun gameplay. Has a spyro feel for sure (not a shocker here). You get multiple dragons to play as. I've only played the first two dragons but the abilities are fun : gliding and wall climbing. The gameplay starts off quite easy but it ramps up and becomes a lot of fun. There are several in-game currencies which is to be expected being it's free to play. It isn't in your face though and I haven't had an urge to spend anything yet although I feel I'm almost to the point (world 2) where it's going to ask me to spend some cash soon (or force me to unless I grind). You must level up your dragons to play new worlds and this I expect will eventually lead to some grinding. I play in short intervals in any mobile game and this game is perfect for that. As far as mobile goes I've been playing nothing but this and "You must build a boat" the past few days. For a free game, the IAP is done right so far. There is a ton of content, good level design, fun (although not unique) abilities, and great controls. This is the only 3d platformer I've played on iOS that has smooth controls. Overall I'd recommend the game, even with all its Free to play shenanigans. thumbs07 Well-Known Member Jul 20, 2010 916 0 16 UK #4 thumbs07, Mar 13, 2016 Most downloaded free game on the store right now beating Clash Royale. And it's escaped all attention of TA! Decent 3d platformer, only criticism might be its a bit generic, easy. Sanuku Well-Known Member Jun 14, 2009 11,954 4 38 Austria http://www.touchgameplay.com #5 Sanuku, Mar 13, 2016 Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel It`s pretty solid, looking forward to see what else might be in the Game hidden. The iAP in the Game is pretty fair as far as I can tell and I don`t regret giving the Game a run. With the among of Mobile Games that are getting released every week I can tell you out of my own experience that it sometimes does take some time to catch up with Games you might have missed or just simple overlooked. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #6 squarezero, Mar 13, 2016 Considering how few decent 3D platformer a there are in the App Store, I wouldn't call Dragon Land generic. The game does have a strong Nintendo look to it, which may skew it "generic" in the broad scope of 3D platformers. But for iOS, nah. To be clear, Dragon Land is the best 3D platformer on the App Store since Crazy Hedgy. Cute characters, good and varied level design, different game modes, tons of content, Pokemon-like character collection and RPG elements, and -- most important -- excellent controls. It starts easy, but the difficulty does ramp up, especially if you like to collect everything on a level. And yes, it's free to play, though so far it's been generous with the premium currency: frankly, I will probably buy something so I don't feel like I'm playing a great game for free. thumbs07 Well-Known Member Jul 20, 2010 916 0 16 UK #7 thumbs07, Mar 13, 2016 My bad, generic was an early impression, now tried these extra quick play modes. It really is a good release. 7lilwhitewolf7 Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2012 3,127 15 38 Male Not hear on earth Georgia,Cleveland Ohio,Texas,New York #8 7lilwhitewolf7, Mar 13, 2016 Oh my great dragon wizdom this iz fun! There iz alot of content that makes it hard to put down. I will be playing a bit of Crazy Hedgy wit dusting off the ol' Playstation for Spyro. The music iz # for exploring and Boss battles. It'z a very # platformer from a roaming world to side scrolling which wuz a pleasant surprize. FiloMJ Well-Known Member May 16, 2015 1,407 22 38 Male #9 FiloMJ, Mar 13, 2016 Downloading... With the exception of Crazy Hedgy, this is the only 3D platformer on iOS that feels like a complete, polished game. Every level seems to introduce a new and fun design element. And the free-to-play stuff is fairy unobstrusive. Hope folks are giving the game the chance it deserves. 7lilwhitewolf7 Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2012 3,127 15 38 Male Not hear on earth Georgia,Cleveland Ohio,Texas,New York #16 7lilwhitewolf7, Mar 19, 2016 # I wouldn't doubt that Tinkerbell showed some magical l❤️ve here Qwertz555 Well-Known Member May 22, 2010 2,318 29 48 #17 Qwertz555, Mar 19, 2016 Yep, if you like Crazy Hedgy and you're able to manage another 5-lives f2p game, than try this out. A nice variety awaits you. Installed MB 653 A bit more love into gameplay development instead of all the social/iap's, and i could have spent some money with pleasure. The very fast used 5 lives (30 min. each) don't negotiate with me at all. Very pity. Unfortunately you're not able to swipe/drag the screen for a look around in the sandbox-ish levels. Also, you're forced to upgrade your dragons to meet the stages power recommendations. I'm at Episode 3/level 6, and this far so good. I always had enough coins to do so. But maybe because i played some unlocked Golden Quests (costs one life, too)? Little pro-tip: Play the unlimited Quick Play to get the feel for all the different and not always easy 3D-angles. The orientation shadow under your dragon isn't too intuitive at first. I can't recall if it was unlocked right from the beginning. I think i had to beat Episode 1 first. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #18 squarezero, Mar 19, 2016 I think there's a ton of love on the gameplay development -- this thing is really, really polished and the level variety on display is up there with a $40 Nintendo exclusive. So far (also on episode 3) I haven't had a problem with camera angles or player shadows, and I have yet to go through all the hearts on a play session. In any event, QuickPlay doesn't use hearts and it's quite fun. As far as the level requirements are comcerned, I've gotten enough experience and gold from playing (on the levels themselves and through time-based and in-game-earned gem bonuses) to reach the required levels the moment I needed to. To put this into context: I've made one single IAP purchase at this point ($4.99) so I could give some money to the devs for this amazing game. I have yet to spend any of the premium currency I bought, and I have three characters fully leveled up at the moment. I know that some folks get soured by any timer-based IAP mechanics. But that shouldn't mask the quality on display here. There simply is no better 3D platformer on the App Sfore, and I wish that the TA community would get past its natural jadedness to recognize that. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #19 squarezero, Apr 15, 2016 Still amazed this game has gotten so little attention.
