Downloading now. I think this game will be the first to actually have similar gameplay. I won't complain too much if it's high quality and well designed. skylined87 Well-Known Member Nov 9, 2014 457 0 16 #3 skylined87, Mar 9, 2016 Yeah I don't really care too much, it looks fantastic and its 99c! Plus Monument Valley drew it's inspiration from MC Escher. It's almost impossible to have an original idea these days. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #4 anthony78, Mar 9, 2016 Boss battles in what looks like a MVish puzzle game? Hmm...could be interesting to see what that's about. TheGreatEscaper Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2014 1,025 22 38 #5 TheGreatEscaper, Mar 9, 2016 I just always found it funny that people would call clone on other games just for the aesthetic. This one is definitely the closest to MV in terms of gameplay so far. But guess what? IT'S FANTASTIC. It's kind of an autorunning MV, where manipulating the level is your only input. This actually works pretty well in the actiony levels and in fact adds another dimension of puzzling that will become obvious in some levels. Yes, there are some action elements. But they're all done very well. They're not frustrating twitch action, they're 'hmm, how can I puzzle my way through this bit'. Dare I say it - level design is better than in Monument Valley. While the concept has lost it's sheer surprise, and there is less blatant creativity on show here, the levels are tight and focused - everything is there for a purpose, practically all parts of the level will be traversed in several ways, it's just really top notch level design. There's an odd kind of scoring system based on how long it takes you to solve a level which automatically makes your robot faster and gives you extra lives and such. It doesn't really affect the game much at all, not sure why it's there. The game also doesn't seem light on content. I'm 12 levels in so far, and these are all more complex than single screens of Monument Valley, very nice difficulty curve here with some very interesting puzzles. Did I mention how great the level select screen is great design touch. Very good game. Hope the MV similarity doesn't turn any people away. This could be a much more interesting puzzler (depending on the length) with a great distinct art style (despite the isometric grid), lots of personality, and amazing level design to boot. Really can't recommend this more. iOS puzzling has been pretty dry for me recently with the exception of RYB so this was a great surprise. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #6 anthony78, Mar 9, 2016 TheGreatEscaper, have you encountered a "boss battle" yet? TheGreatEscaper Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2014 1,025 22 38 #8 TheGreatEscaper, Mar 9, 2016 I've done two so far. They're actually fairly basic compared to the other levels although the second boss was a fun one to pull off. The bosses vary in mechanic but essentially they put sections of the level in danger temporarily. You either have to survive or navigate the level without being damaged. Fairly standard boss fare but it's executed well. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #9 metalcasket, Mar 9, 2016 Gotta say, I agree with everything mentioned in this thread. This and Monument Valley can co-exist on the App Store. So far it feels like a more mechanical version of Monument Valley, with a speed-running aspect that will come into play as you upgrade your little robot dude. I'm really digging everything about this even though I was suremely cautious about it. Couple of things that need changing? The App Store name needs to be Dream Machine: The Game (without the space) and under the app icon we have Dream Ma... or something. touchy85 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2015 1,616 1 38 #10 touchy85, Mar 9, 2016 Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Main differences between this and Monument Valley. I was almost going to come here to say it was shorter than I expected, but lo and behold, there's more Spoiler even after you escape the factory ! Once you reach that point the art style starts getting some really subtle changes and becomes almost as beautiful as Monument Valley. Level 19 is a masterpiece. What a wonderful design. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #15 anthony78, Mar 9, 2016 Interesting. Going to dive in. Not sure why they had to have "The Game" in the title. That's usually like a movie tie in or something.
