You think it's a funny novelty, and will make two people smile together, yet somehow even THAT isn't worth a measly three dollars? What in the actual . Even this bag of fake dog shit is twice that price: http://www.amazon.com/Bag-Of-Poop-Novelty-Island/dp/B00E8MEMQY Somehow enjoying an entertaining and funny moment with another human being isn't even worth half the price of fake shit. There is no hope for humanity. It's a bit off the point to say that this isn't worth half the price of fake dog crap, to make someone smile for a bit. It's more a case of, "will this be more fun than any other game at the same price or lower on the App Store that I may have had my eye on?" Novelty only takes you so far. It's a shame that $2.99 is considered a higher tier price, but that's the current reality of the marketplace. Most games seem to come in at that price or lower, or "free" and laden with iap. I added this to my watchlist when it launched, and I've been holding off, waiting for some actual community impressions, but they don't seem to be forthcoming. So, with the current price drop (and hoping this isn't the first step to transitioning to a free/iap model) I'll pick it up and try it out. Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #16 Boardumb, Feb 26, 2016 I was just making a joke to prove a point It seems like people are obsessed with only buying things that have everlasting value, or need to be compared to every other thing for sale on the App Store. WHY? A $3 clever little game that will get you to laugh with your friends in real life isn't worth that? If it's not, that's fine, but don't come in saying "boy this looks awesome I think I'd like it! But it probably won't give me 10000 hours of fun so NO SALE!" like the guy I was responding to. THIS is why the game is on sale currently, and THIS is why the App Store as a whole is a shithouse. Just because there may exist a game with more "content" or "levels" or "features" for the same price or, more likely, even cheaper, does that discount this game and make it irrelevant? If you go to the movies and one movie is a touching piece of magic that makes you feel a ton of amazing feelings and experience joy you've never felt in your life before, but it's only 90 minutes; and then in the theater next door is a movie that's boring and uninteresting and you hate it with all your being, but it's 3 hours long. So the 3 hour long movie wins because it's "more movie" for the same price as the 90 minute one? That's asinine. This game is rad. I went out of town the weekend it came out, and holy hell I had so much fun goofing around playing this with my friends. I even got a bunch of people to buy it, even at the OUTRAGEOUS price of three whole dollars. I honestly need to start looking for a different job, I can't stomach working in the mobile market anymore. If I had seen that earlier in the thread, I would have taken the plunge at that time. I'm not looking for 1000 hour epic games with endles levels, that will never get boring for $.99. That's a unicorn. And I honestly get more enjoyment out of smaller, well done experiences than I do epic games. For one, I don't have that much gaming time available. For another, it's a game of Russian roulette as to whether the next iOS update is going to bork the epic game I was playing before I'm able to finish it; looking at you, Monster Hunter. I'm open for deep, time consuming experiences, and also smaller, fun things. Before what you just wrote, I didn't see any real community feedback about this gaming experience. So it was an interesting unknown. And there are LOTS of other gaming experiences vying for my limited income. As it is, between the price drop and my curiosity, I've taken a chance* and look forward to playing it later with my wife. And now, thanks to what you said near the end of your last post, I'm hopeful of having a really good time. I will post impressions later. --- *"Chance" is relative. If I had a bunch of spare cash just waiting to be blown, it would have been an easy decision. I don't, so I have to balance the potential enjoyment I can get from this against other games for the same-ish price that have more feedback. I've bought many games on a whim that I really wish I hadn't, and I'm trying to minimize the chance of that happening as much as I can without outright not buying any more games. Hence, hesitation. Whimsy alone doesn't make a good game. (Edit) here's an example if what I mean. Love You To Bits just came out, and it's $1 more than this game's original price. I picked it up yesterday, and so far it's phenomenal. I'm slowing down because I don't want it to end too soon. That, for me, is a good game for the price. In fact, it feels woefully underpriced for what I've gotten out of it so far. Even though the genre is different, will I get that much enjoyment from this game? I'll find out later tonight. Collin Well-Known Member Jul 29, 2010 719 46 28 Graphic Designer/Illustrator/Art Director Colorado Springs, CO https://www.theislandsofmisfitcreativity.com/ #18 Collin, Feb 28, 2016 My impressions so far My wife and I played three rounds last night, then I messed around with it a bit more this morning, testing a few things out. My current impression is that it might be more fun to watch this game being played than it is to actually play it. When playing, you have to stay focused on the gestures that you need to be following. Unless you are better at focusing on multiple things than I am, you will miss everything that's happening with the tongues. And the dueling tongues are the whole twist of the game, right? It would benefit from an instant replay at the end, because just following directions on a screen isn't that much fun. Both players are following the same pattern, so there's no actual interaction between your fingers, like there is in some other "couples" style finger twisting games that I've played; "Fingle" for example. That seems like a missed opportunity; dueling tongues and dueling fingers. Two of the three games we played ended with a chance at the final super move, but the heart moved so fast that we had no chance; unlike in the tutorial where it moved at a more moderate pace. Again, that was only two games, and it's possible that different levels have different speeds. With more practice we may be able to pull it off. When playing alone I tried the freestyle mode, and I discovered that the multi-touch detection seems to fail occasionally. I didn't lift either of my two fingers while sliding them around, but it would eventually stop detecting one player or the other, until I reset the one that had stopped working. That makes me wonder if it's failing during the actual game as well. The graphics are interesting, and the concept is interesting, but I feel like the overall execution and gameplay is lacking. I'm not deleting it yet though. We'll give it a few more games and see if it grows on us. 3 of 5 from me. Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #19 Boardumb, Feb 28, 2016 I should probably stay out of this thread for my own health I just wanted to clarify that I didn't intend for my response to you to come off as snippy as it sounded when I just re-read right now. The guy who I initially replied to is the type of attitude that really irks me. Perhaps it's because I've played this game at GDC and met the developers, and know how passionate they are and how hard they have worked on this game that colors my feelings. To me it's inexcusably rude to dismiss somebody's hard work (art, if you will) as "not worth 2.99" and I even consider characterizing it as a "novelty" as being really disrespectful. Regarding the thing I quoted above, I don't think because something exists for a similar price with more content that should automatically deem anything lesser (or different, more accurately) as not being worth its price. I mean "fun" is so subjective, so it seems weird to turn it into a math equation of "I must have X amount of fun with this game which costs as much as another game I had Y amount of fun with for it to be worthy." Anyway, sorry you're not having that much fun with this one. It's definitely not for everyone. You make a valid point that it's hard to watch what's actually going on while focusing on the gestures. I've only played this in group settings and it's been a blast, so maybe that's the key as opposed to a strictly one on one scenario. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
